Strawberries: From Farm to Table

How is everybody on this fine day? Today I visited my uncle's strawberry patch in a section called La Playa ("the beach") of a larger region called La Cienega. A cienega is a marshy meadow with saturated soils in an otherwise arid landscape. This one is very large and many locals from the nearby villages own and rent parcels of land there.
Some cows were being herded through the path and were even stopping to feast on the wheat planted in the adjacent lot.

While three hired hands picked the fruit, my uncles carefully packed them into their containers and weighed them.

They were careful to only include the best, most pristine strawberries. I ate some rejected ones with holes but the remaining edible rejects are sent to the local markets and shops.
My job was to put together the boxes in which the containers are packed in.

We filled twelve boxes of strawberries today! From here, they go to the city of Zamora, Michoacán where a middle man buys them. They will likely end up on supermarket shelves in the United States.
