MEANING AND REASONS FOR DEFORESTATION
Deforestation is also called clearing. This is an act of removing a forest where it is,or taking away stand of trees and converting it to a non forest use. An example is when you convert a forest land to farm or urban use. Tropical rain forest is the most concentrated deforestation that occurs.
There are many reasons why deforestation takes place,and some of them are;
The trees that are cut down are used for building
When land are cleared,it is used for livestock and plantation as pastures.
Deforestation is also used as war thereby not allowing the enemies have access to vital resources.
When trees are removed without enough reforestation, it result in habitat damage,biodiversity loss and aridity. In 2002 and 2012,2.3 million square kilometres of forest around the world were cut down. The cause of deforestation is majorly agriculture because they use it for farm where all foods are cultivated and animals are reared. When deforestation is done,the land will be used for many purposes. There was an estimation that 18 million acres of forest that is as large as Panama country are lost each year, that was according to United Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). According to World Wildlife Fund (WWF),the Earth loses 18.7 million acres of forests every year.
Deforestation takes place all over the world, the tropical rainforest are always targeted. When this is done continuously, the rainforest may disappear completely.
REASONS FOR DEFORESTATION
• Deforestation is done so that land can be available for housing
• Another reason is for making timber to create commercial items such as paper,furniture etc
• For creating ingredients such as oil from palm trees
• There would be room for cattle ranching
There are two methods of deforestation and they are;
Burning trees
Clear cutting
BURNING TREES- This is done quickly and slowly by cutting down trees by patch and burning them and growing crops on the land
CLEAR CUTTING- This is when trees are cut down at once
In global climate change deforestation is one of the factors that are contributed so much. Deforestation release carbon dioxide into the air but lessens the amount of carbon stored. Nearly billions tons of carbon does deforestation release into the atmosphere every year and it is the second largest anthropogenic (human caused) source of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere
EFFECT OF DEFORESTATION
There would be no species. Due to deforestation, plants and animals have loose their place of residence and are now living in the forest
There is no negative consequences for research on medicines that Rely on animals and plants in the forest.
Since deforestation has occur,trees and plants lack soil and this cause erosion because their roots cannot hold onto the soil.
It also has negative impact on the environment, that is many people live in forest because it destroys their home.
Countries that experience deforestation the more are;
• Russia
• Brazil
• China
• United states
• Canada
• Australia
• Congo
• Indonesia
• Peru
• India
How to stop deforestation are
• Start hugging a tree
• Plant trees
• Stop printing/go paperless
• Buy recycled product when shopping
• Do not use firewood to heat up your fireplaces
