Impressions from the local Carnival/Fasnacht parade 2018
G'day and hello everybody,it's called FASNACHT in Switzerland's German-speaking areas or the fith season.
Fasnacht is celebrated from "Schmutziger Donnerstag"/dirty Thursday until
"Guedis Dienstag"/fat Tuesday.
This celebration is the last big party before the 40 days of lent and is meant to be as loud and scary as possible in order to fighten Winter away.Today is Ash Wednesday,start of the lent.
(Some have Thursday already)
"Guggenmusic" bands are talented musicians who practice all year around,pick a theme,make costumes and spend the whole duration of Fasnacht playing their socks off,are the heart of the Fasnacht.There are parades all over the place,the most famous in Central Switzerland is held in Lucerne.
We (I) didn't go to Lucerne this year,just went to the local parade next town.Met some old friends I haven't seen for years.
Anyway some more pictures from the parade.I hope you enjoy it,as much as we (I) did.
So that's it,one more picture how it's gonna look at the Basel carneval/Fasnacht from next Monday on.....
