My experience with my first 5-day water-only fast

I came across some articles a few weeks ago at work about people that were "fasting" and that on top of losing weight it was an awesome experience and cleanses your body. So I figured what the hell, I will give it a shot. Recently around October or so started working out daily but have not lost the amount of weight I had hoped for by this point (i.e. 2 months before summer) so i'm glad I found out about fasting. Longstory short for those that don't want to read my whole experience I ended up doing 6 days without food, lost 5kgs (10 lbs), and almost shit my pants twice.

The workouts I have been doing were 4 days lifting, 3 days running. With this being my first experience fasting and everyone telling me I was crazy for trying it, I did start my fast immediately after my fourth lifting day and I did not run on the days I normally would.

I started on Saturday March 10th. Woke up pretty hungover just ate some rice and ground turkey that I had left over from my lunches I make for work. Decided that since I felt like shit from drinking the night before that I would not go out drinking Saturday and just start now instead of Sunday. I realize that everyone is going to feel different when gong through a fast but night number one was the worst for me. Around 9pm my stomach was making all kinds of noises and I swear every commercial on TV was fucking Arbys!! I never wanted it so bad in my life.

Anyways, I overcame my urge and from day two on I was golden. Aside from day 3 & 4 i (almost) shit my pants both days. I had heard that was a thing that may happen so I was cautious.

On day 3, I was already standing next to the toilet doing a number one and thought I had to fart but quickly realized that was not the case. I pinched it off and dropped my pants checked the underwear (was clean) lol and was on the toilet for 7 or 8 mins just foul as fuck diarrhea. The best part is when I went to wipe, I pull up the piece of toilet paper and this thing is saturated beyond belief! it was essentially a wet wipe covered in shit, so gross! So I continue to wipe, and after the 9th time going to wipe realizing that it is a lost cause and some of the shit (literally) is not even close to my asshole, I gave up on that plan. I took all my clothes off and hopped in the shower. Now I have one of those removable shower handles so busted out the soap and flipped that puppy upside down and got all up in there. Crazy stuff! like I said it happened the next day as well but was not as crazy as the day before!

Day 4 rolls around and I was feeling pretty good, decided that I could do my usual lifting routine. Went to the gym and half way through my set I felt kinda light-headed when getting up but I grabbed some water and felt fine, I did not let it stop me. I did notice throughout the 4 days that I could not up my weights like I normally try to do each week but also I could not even perform the same exercise/weight that I completed the week before, so I was kind of upset about that.

Day 5 rolled around (Thursday, March 15th) and I did not even want anything to eat. I decided to go an extra day which as I suspected was no big deal after having already done 5. Honestly, I would of kept going longer but I had committed to plans for St. Patricks day drinking with some friends so I had to eat before that. However, I think it would of gone just as bad had I not started eating. For the record I work night shift so Friday I wake up around noon have some bone broth (people on the internet said it was good to break a fast with) but that stuff was kinda gross I also scrambled one egg and ate that. Went to the gym and came back and was prepared to make stuffed peppers and keep my body in ketosis (body uses fat for energy rather than sugar and carbs) ate one pepper and went into a food coma.

Worked all night and had another two peppers which went better than before. Got off work and went immediately downtown to Cleveland and started drinking at 6:30 am. This bar was doing an Always Sunny St. Patricks day theme and I am a huge fan so I could not pass it up. Drank 7 beers before 10am when my friend finally woke up and told me to come over. I never got a power nap in and went back out with them until 6pm. I was three sheets to the wind and my friend let me crash at his place I remember grabbing a plate and a napkin to make a make-shift pillow and there was a perfectly good couch right next to me (which I was on before making the pillow) lol. I woke up at his place at 2:30am and drove home then slept until noon.

I loved the whole fasting thing I am going to do it again sometime in mid-april. I do not recommend stopping fasting before a day drinking event like I did. Anyways thanks for reading, and if you have any questions that I did not cover I would be happy to try and answer them,
