The Real Reason We Get Fat

in #fat7 years ago

Magazines are plastered with human forms chiseled from nothing but muscle. Follow any of these models and you'll find that they don't stay this way. Like a fighter they train for their photo shoots. Between cover shoot even top models get flabby. Well if THEY can't stay thin how can we? It's not as easy as eat less and exercise more. Body fat is really not our fault.

Just seeing or thinking about tempting food releases the hormone dopamine. Eating the treat gets a boost from the dopamine, making you want more and more. A study was published in a 1997 issue of International Journal of Psychophysiology on chocolate. They found that chocoholics had responses to chocolate similar to drug addicts and their drugs.

Ever wonder why restaurants bring you an entire basket of white bread before you eat? White bread has been stripped of the fiber and good nutrients that are found in whole grain breads. These are called refined carbohydrates. A feeling of satisfaction similar to cocaine hits your body after consumption, which is why most food manufacturers use these exclusively in most of their products. Restaurants are not dumb, they know that the white bread they serve absorbs quickly into your system sending up your blood sugar. It rises quickly and then slams down. This means that by the time your food server comes you'll have low blood sugar.

Suddenly you're ravenously hungry and you'll order more food than you would have normally. If you drink alcohol and eat less than healthy food you'll probably find yourself ordering dessert too. You just can't resist. They just extracted 20 or $30 from your wallet by giving you some bread that cost them a few cents. Your health is being ruined but the restaurant business considers it good business.

Food over the past five decades has become much tastier. No longer made in homes it now comes from laboratories and factories. The chefs of today are chemists and biologists. They know what we want and to make us want more. How do We break free of the power of these foods? The big step is awareness. I suggest two recent books. How Not to Die by Dr. Michael Gregor, and Salt, Sugar, Fat by Michael Moss. This information will save your waistline. And maybe your life.
