Cryptocurrency Faucets
What is a faucet?
Faucets come in several forms, but they all have a common function. A faucet's purpose is to hand out small amounts of crytpocurrency - usually in exchange for the user's time or attention (despite all claims to the contrary, nothing is free). How do they do this? Most faucets that I have encountered afford to give away cryptocurrency through ad-revenue sharing, donations, and gambling profits.
Are they worth my time?
You won't make money quickly. It's not going to replace your job. If you're lucky you might get side money from it sometimes - if you cash out. For me, it's like picking up digital seashells along a decentralized beach of new ideas. I do it because I find value in it, but faucets should not be expected to make you $$$. That being said, the goal is to collect as much as possible and there are faucets that provide higher value than others.
Tips for utilizing faucets
- Have a good antivirus/firewall - cryptospace is flooded with mining viruses and other nastiness. wear a condom.
- Find their minimum withdraw - it doesn't matter how much they give you if you aren't going to be able to withdraw for a year. You don't control the coins/tokens until they are in your wallet. Pay attention to any fees or other stipulations to withdrawal.
- Many faucets will make you perform the captcha more than once to get the reward. Don't be surprised if this happens often.
- Don't click on ads or outside links as they often contain vicious redirects or other nasty surprises - especially on young ad revenue sharing websites.
- Don't believe anyone that wants you to send them $$$ or cryptocurrency. It's a scam 99.9% of the time. If you wouldn't trust them to hold your cash, don't send them your cryptocurrency.
- Use a password manager/generator so any registration for these sites contain strong, unique passwords. Why will people steal your crypto pennies? I don't know the reason, but they will certainly try so utilize some basic cyber security and save yourself a headache. 2 factor authentication is also popular and generally recommended where available.
