Featuring – Antipolo Food and Delicacies “Cacao”
Good day Steemians! Please have some time to take a look for my entry for our Antipolo Food and Delicacies.
What is Cacao? Before I educate you guys about the facts and origin of this fruit let me explain first the reason why I decided to feature this. Cacao or Cocoa is an international fruit. I currently live in Antipolo and I found this fruit in our backyard. Yes, in our backyard, my mother in-law used to plant different kinds of fruits. That is the reason why I choose to feature this fruit and I think it is unique.
Let’s go back to our main topic. Cacao is also called as Theobroma ("food of the gods") it’s botanical name was given by Swedish natural scientist Carl Linnaeus in his original classification of the plant kingdom. A cocoa pod (fruit) filled with sweet, mucilaginous pulp (called baba de cacao in South America). This lemonade-like taste fruit has 30 to 50 large seeds that are fairly soft and pale lavender to dark brownish purple color. The seed's fat, cocoa butter can be extracted. The beans are the basis of chocolate.
My mother in-law used to make a homemade chocolate out of this fruit and Cacao is one of her ingredients in making “Champorado”.
