The Magic Word: A sci-fi/fantasy novella serial

Merken is waiting for his father to return from the dragon wars. Meanwhile, he is studying for his magic exams but he has a funny accent and even a lisp and finds it difficult to pronounce the spells. He is thinking of a way to avoid the exams and how to hide from his classmates who bully him mercilessly. When the whole village is turned into zombies he realises that he needs to get better at magic once and for all, and quick smart.

This fantasy/sci-fi/mystery novella is something I'm currently working on, and I've decided to write and release it, chapter by chapter on steemit. I appreciate all honest feedback and plan to either self-publish it or submit it for publication. My style of writing is short and choppy and sometimes I forget to add in enough detail because my brain is moving ahead too quickly (or too erratically). Please tell me what things you would like fleshed out or anything you don't understand.
