Foxie on a mission - A story for children aged 7-12 - PART 2
Foxie searched high and low but there were no other foxes, and if there were, they were not anywhere he had searched, that's for sure. He found an old cabin that was empty but it was not the cabin that caught his attention - it was the tree right in front of it that interested Foxie so.
To the eye it seemed like an ordinary tree. It had a thick base with healthy bark and beautiful, almost perfect, green leaves. If it wasn't for the beautiful singing coming from it, Foxie never would have given it a second thought.
Foxie recognized the music coming from the tree. It was a song that Mrs. Smith loved to play on her CD player back home. As awkward as it was, he stood there trying to figure out who it was that was singing such beautiful music. To Foxie, it sounded like a girl with a pure and beautiful voice. The only problem with that was that the sounds came from above, so if it was a girl, she had to be in the tree somewhere, and somewhat invisible too.
Looking up at the tree, Foxie saw the leaves rattling. At first he thought that it might be the wind, but the longer he stared at it, the more it looked like something moving up there but he could not make out what it was. It was too far up. Foxie tried to get a better look from each and every angle of the bottom of the tree and only got frustrated when he couldn't see anything. Eventually his eyes got so tired that he decided to lay down on his back. That way, he could rest his neck too. As he lay there on his back, his eyes became heavy and with the beautiful, soft music in his ears, it wasn't long before he drifted into a peaceful sleep.
A few hours later the rumbling in his tummy was what caused Foxie to wake up. He was so relaxed and while still on his back, he realized that he must have been so tired that he did not even roll over or move around in his sleep at all.
While still caught between being awake and being asleep, Foxie started to notice that the view around him looked a little different from what he could remember before closing his eyes. It was also quiet - too quiet actually. With a big shock and before you could say "What the?", Foxie was on his feet. His heart was racing and his mouth became so dry that he struggled to swallow.
"It can't be!" said Foxie and then shut his eyes quickly. He shook his head quickly from left to right a few times, stretched his front paws while moving his body downwards and he was sure that when he opens his eyes again, everything would be back to normal. At first, he opened only one eye slowly but it was so blurry that he could not even make anything out. While closing his eye again he started to shake his head, this time a little faster and with a big plump, he sat down on his behind and decided that he was going to count to three and then open both eyes at the same time.
1, 2, 3...!
And with that, Foxie took a deep breath and opened his eyes.
...to be continued...
