Great movies that deserve some more attention
There are a lot of movies out there that are under-appreciated, probably due to the lack of advertisement but this doesn't necessarily mean that the movies are bad. It really is a shame because the some of the movies are amazing with unique and moving story lines. So I decided to make this post to show you some movies you probably haven't hear of but you should watch if you're looking for a good story or just want to kill time.
1. The Tribe (2014)
The Tribe is set in an Ukrainian boarding school for the deaf, the whole story there is no spoken dialogue or subtitles . The mostly deaf cast only communicate in sign language. Many people are ignorant and do not watch it due to the fact of the language barrier, however the movie uses magic to understand what goes on. Ok maybe not but the body language and facial expressions themselves explain everything you need to know and the non-deaf audience get a feel of what deaf people feel like in everyday life.
2. Blind (2014)
Blind, a stunning Norwegian film about complete loss of vision, immediately cottons on to its rich paradox of subject and medium. How do you visualise not seeing? Ingrid, the character played by the pale, ghostly and beautiful Ellen Dorrit Petersen, has been suddenly afflicted in adulthood, and is too stricken with fear to step outside her sparsely furnished flat.
3. Eden (2014)
Eden is an affecting trip into the electronic dance movement in Paris whose rhythms echo its textures and feeling. Based on the experiences of Hansen-Løve's brother Sven, the film follows Paul, a teenager in the underground scene of early-nineties Paris. Rave parties dominate that culture, but he's drawn to the more soulful rhythms of Chicago's garage house. He forms a DJ collective named Cheers, and together he and his friends plunge into the ephemeral nightlife of sex, drugs, and endless music.
4. Victoria (2015)
A movie shot in a single take about Victoria, a runaway party girl, who's asked by three friendly men to join them as they hit the town. Their wild night of partying turns into a bank robbery.
5. White God (2014)
When young Lili is forced to give up her beloved dog Hagen, because it's mixed-breed heritage is deemed 'unfit' by The State, she and the dog begin a dangerous journey back towards each other. At the same time, all the unwanted, unloved and so-called 'unfit' dogs rise up under a new leader, Hagen, the one-time housepet who has learned all too well from his 'Masters' in his journey through the streets and animal control centers how to bite the hands that beats him.
6. The Duke of Burgundy (2015)
Day after day, Cynthia and Evelyn act out a simple yet provocative ritual that ends with Evelyn's punishment and pleasure. As Cynthia yearns for a more conventional relationship, Evelyn's obsession with erotica quickly becomes an addiction that may push the relationship to a breaking point.
7. Hard to Be a God (2013)
A group of scientists is sent to the planet Arkanar to help the local civilization, which is in the Medieval phase of its own history, to find the right path to progress. Their task is a difficult one: they cannot interfere violently and in no case can they kill. The scientist Rumata tries to save the local intellectuals from their punishment and cannot avoid taking a position. As if the question were: what would you do in God's place? Director's statement Aleksei wanted to make this film his entire life. The road was a long one. This is not a film about cruelty, but about love. A love that was there, tangible, alive, and that resisted through the hardest of conditions.
8. I'll See You in My Dreams (2015)
A sudden loss disrupts Carol’s orderly life, propelling her into the dating world for the first time in 20 years. Finally living in the present tense, she finds herself swept up in not one, but two unexpected relationships that challenge her assumptions about what it means to grow old.
9. Orphan (2009)
The tragic loss of their unborn child has devastated Kate and John, taking a toll on both their marriage and Kate's fragile psyche as she is plagued by nightmares and haunted by demons from her past. Struggling to regain some semblance of normalcy in their lives, the couple decides to adopt another child. At the local orphanage, both John and Kate find themselves strangely drawn to a young girl named Esther. Almost as soon as they welcome Esther into their home, however, an alarming series of events begins to unfold, leading Kate to believe that there's something wrong with Esther-this seemingly angelic little girl is ...
10. The Kindergarten Teacher (2014)
In a world that does not appreciate artists, where sensitive souls don't stand a chance, a poetry-loving kindergarten teacher discovers a child poet and decides to take it upon herself to nurture him. To save his greatness from the world, to salvage him from the banal, the mediocre and the crude - to save him from life itself. It is the story of a female Don Quixote, who strives to save the world through the poetry of a child, and of a pensive child who has no desire to be saved.
