Classic Anime on the remake.
I heard about this. I didn't think it was true. Thought it was just a rumor to rile those hardcore fans and create controversy and get a classic back on the map. But it is true and it is coming. I'm kind of enthused after seeing this. Not cause we got Scarlet Johanson as The Major....
This raises quite a few questions and there are A LOT of people who believe that this is not going to be anything but a complete piece of shit. Granted, they cast a white girl in the role of a Japanese character in Tokyo, Though the concept and from what is rumored to be the story line, are solid. The vast majority of the supporting cast is of Asian decent and more importantly, Japanese. This does have the potential to be a great film.
Just throwing this out there and wanting to get people involved in discussing this a bit.
Also, if you want to see the trailers before getting into this discussion....

Ghost in the Shell is one of the most interesting cyberpunk worlds and the ways its already been brought to life are amazing. I was very disappointed when they handed this movie to a director that's proven himself to be mediocre. They're throwing away an excellent opportunity. I just hope Rupert Sanders somehow redeems himself.
This is a fan edit of a teaser they put out. It makes me excited, but I'm still not getting my hopes up.
It's cool to see Takeshi Kitano as Aramaki in this. Just based on the teaser alone it's not the Aramaki we know though.
Didn't see Snow White & the Huntsman. And yes, indeed I will agree with you that the direct has very little to no experience and potentially needs to not be behind the camera.
From what the trailers that give us, is that this is possibly not anyway connected to anything we know from the already existing Ghost in the Shell universe. From a review of the trails by Beyond The Trailer (
She never knew of GitS ever existed, did the research, educated herself and did a somewhat comparison of the anime. I have to say, I was impressed and the way she presented this completely makes up for the directors former mishaps (I don't think anyone can get Kristen Stewart to show an expression). I too am none enthused that a live action version is being made, though I am willing to give it a shot. Give it a chance and who knows, it could be a diamond in the rough. If not, we'll know.
I think a live-action Ghost in the Shell could be absolutely brilliant, and now is definitely the right time commercially as well. Cyberpunk is becoming mainstream daily life. The movie and show animations proved all you have to do is stick to the source material and don't fuck it up, and it'll be great.
Hoping they do just that. Granted they are taking a few liberties with the creation process. Arimaki having the revolver, most of the cast being Japanese, and lots of under lighting and cables. I'm interested and willing to this a chance.
I just need this song in the movie and i will be a happy gamer.
YOU!
Winning!
You are in deed correct.
Technically its an android. Not even human! I saw an interview of people in Japan, and they didn't mind. They actually are big fans of Scarlet.
Cyborg. Ghost in the Shell follows Major Kusanagi, a cyborg set in the future.
Okay, so critics in Japan are in favor of this? Then it shouldn't be all that bad. Just gonna have to wait for the finish product.
This is one of my all-time favorite anime series!!!! + the concepts are amazing!!! Interesting cast for lead....but sure, why not.....I totally wonder how this will pan out...and thank heaven it IS because I'm over all the fantasy...I need more sci-fi!!!!! XOXOXOOX <3 <3 <3 GitS <3
oooohhhh I would have wanted Milla Jovovich !
cuz she's perfect <3
Rrrrr.....
I have to disagree on that choice. Milla Jovoich would be a decent nomination, but after watching Lucy, you would understand the concept. Its the performance in that, that truly cemented Scarjo as the better choice for Major Kusanagi.
Fantasy does have its place. I don't think its over. You are correct though in the meaning that more Shadowrun, cyber-punk, dystopian futures need to make a come back.
