The Greatest Showman is directed by Michael Gracey on his first movie as a director and tells the story about P.T. Barnum, a charismatic guy married to a beautiful woman and who happens to have two cute daughters. Barnum has always strugled to have his economy stable but one day he has the idea of hiring unique people who will help him create the greatest show on earth and make some money out of it.

This is a werid movie but it is not completly bad as you might think, it is surprisingly quite entretaining and funny. Even if you don't like musicals like a lot of people, you won't get bored or overwelmed because the songs are quite short (for which I'm very thankful).

The main problem with this movie resides on its environment, as everything feels weird and out of place. It looked like they were just trying to make a musical and not a good story necesarily and they just picked the circus-based story because it sound like a good idea at the time they were writting the script. It even gets weirder in those scenes where the main character dances and sings allong his crew instead of doing circus things.

Another problem with this musical is regarding its songs. I have said before that I'm thankful they are not too long, but that might cut both ways. Since they are too short, they are also quite forgettable. And this might just be me but this musical feels like the story is adapting to the songs and not the songs at the story. The only song that was quote descent but at the same time repetitive was the one performed by Rebecca Ferguson.

At the end, The Greatest Showman is quite entretaining but at the same time kind of awkward to watch, and although the script has good intentions this movie might have worked better as a Cirque Du Soleil special.

SCORE: 6.7
