RE: The Most Finnish Easter Thing

in #finland6 years ago (edited)

Ps. Does anyone know what eggs have to do with easter? Jesus and chocolate eggs together seem like a bit of a reach.

Could be that the eggs were originally part of some pagan tradition, but then Christians made it about Jesus - like Christmas (or whatever it was called before Christ) was originally a pagan tradition, but then Christians slipped the J in there. Easier to transform existing traditions than create new ones, I guess. Sneaky bastards...

Yeah I know the Christians have had a habit of stealing our pagan celebrations, but I have no idea where the egg tradition comes from.

@markkujantunen, you have any inside knowledge about this one?

Maybe it's like the wafers and wine. The blood and body of Christ. So eggs are birth and... yeah, i just extrapolated that without researching it. ; )
