It’s time to bare my soul. Call a priest and a sewing circle, because this will be juicy and scandalous.

Stand by to clutch your pearls….

WOMEN ARE BETTER STUDENTS AND LEARN TO SHOOT FASTER THAN MEN

Take a minute, because I know there are some knuckle draggers out there who are about to trash their $700 Facebook machine. In my short time as an instructor I have observed many women and men of various shooting backgrounds. I have had co-ed courses and non-integrated courses for women only. In both situations, I have seen women adopt coaching quicker and apply techniques better than men.

Granted, these observations are limited to a one day Texas LTC course and/or handgun fundamentals course. There is no stress inoculation in these courses, no primary to secondary transitions, and definitely no weight bearing belts, harnesses, or plate carriers. My handgun basics course is designed for the person who hasn’t even seen a pistol. We take it low, slow, and safe. And yet, the women are picking it up quicker than the men.

Now let’s take a step back and expand upon that last point. I’m not here to virtue signal and bash my own gender. And I won’t get off on a tangent about a woman’s role in combat (where most of these conversations invariable end for some reason) – so let’s put that baby to bed now.

I’m here to say women, when coached in the right environment, can become better shooters quicker than they think they can.

This post is written to put to rest any fears a woman may have about learning to shoot for the first time. It’s no secret that women often make better students. It’s also no secret that women often have better fine motor skills. Both of these traits are in high demand when learning to shoot.

Source. But let's be honest, this article in a peer reviewed scholarly journal only confirms what you can observe on a daily basis. Girls act better than boys in class because boys are mostly primates. As a boy and the father to a boy, I can attest to this. One is not better than the other, nor can one replace the other. They are just different.

So ladies, if you have the desire to learn to shoot and are somewhat hesitant – you need not be. Call your friends and sign up for a course together. It will be fun and you’ll realize you possess the mental and physical abilities to get past that beginner hump.

Be accurate.
Be safe.
