The One That Got Away Featuring Mr. Sea Lion

What Pancho wants, Pancho gets.

What does defeat look like you ask? See below.

Recently, as you may have seen on my latest blog, I went fishing in Cabo San Lucas. On that trip, something happened to me that left me thrilled, confused, and exhausted all at the same time. Several times before this encounter a shark had eaten the fish I was reeling in, which is far more underwhelming than you would think. You're reeling, reeling, and then the shark's big, sharp teeth snap your line as it attacks the defenseless fish you're fighting. Underwater it is probably both a terrifying and exhilarating sight, but above water, it is just a tensionless line and a few discouraged fisherman. Anyway, this fight was not with a shark, it was with a 700 pound sea lion! A hungry, angry one too!

As I was reeling in a big mahi-mahi, I felt the fish almost triple in weight, nearly pulling me into the water! Our guide Chileno yelled, "León León". He kept telling me to reel, reel!! As we chased my fish the sea lion kept throwing it into the air and toying with us, with it. Just when we would get it close to the boat the sea lion would come back and grab his lunch again! These are the best photos we could get while chasing the sea lion all across the Pacific Ocean. Enjoy!

I guess I wasn't the first person "PANCHO" stole from, and definitely wont be the last!!

An entertaining post on the struggle between 2 beasts for their prey! Somewhat philosophical.

What fun! Those sea lions...so smart!

What a pesky little devil! I know how annoying it can be having predators stealing a hard earned catch. The laws of nature never yield, that's for sure.
