Training for Cycling Races Begins!
I have been at odds for a few weeks trying to figure out how best I would prepare for some cycling races coming up in the next couple of months. Initially I was making it up as I go along, but I realized that I might fall short of my targets.
There are two races in particular in October and November that I will be racing head to head against some of my friends.
Two weeks ago I picked up a training plan on Strava and also on the Watt bBike App, but still this was just mix and match. In an effort to give myself the best chance of winning the head to head races I decide to find a dynamic training plan that will adjust based on my current fitness level and goals.
After looking around for a little bit I found 2Peak [https://2peak.com] which seems to be exactly what I need to achieve my goals.
Today was the first day of the training and it will be interesting to see how 2peak adjusts the training plan as I go along
Below is basically what the week ahead of training looks like.
Today was the first run in the program and this is what the detail looked like
Below is what I went out and did. The two minute green in the first block was due to a steep down hill which made it pretty hard to stay in the right heart rate zone.
I also found it a little hard to stay at a low heart rate zone while keeping a steady pace. I'm probably going to adjust the running heart rate zones a little. I'd say the first run wasn't too far off what was asked.
I will post some more details of the races and plans as we go along this journey. I really hope 2Peak can deliver.
