Follow the Writer

Ever read a story on the Writing Prompts subreddit that leaves you wanting more? Enter #follow the writer: a writing contest that results in a story that does continue.

I'll provide 3 writing prompts right now, out of which the contestants can choose and write their entry. Every following week, the contestants will continue the story of last weeks winner.

Thanks to @papa-pepper, who generously sponsored this contest, I will give 5 SBD to each weeks winner. That way, we'll have at least 4 weeks of fun.

As for the rules:

  • Choose one of the 3 writing prompts provided, and write your story.
  • Original content only.
  • Post your story in the comments to this post.
  • One entry per week, you are free to edit your story until the deadline.
  • Deadline: Friday the 23th of June, 21:00 CEST. (Next Friday evening, EU time)
  • You keep all the rights to your story.
  • If you'd like to make your own post with your story, go ahead and use the tag #followthewriter. (Also post it in the comments here, otherwise I might miss it.)
  • If you enjoy this contest, please consider upvoting and resteeming. Also, if you're totally awesome, you may follow me ;).

And now, drumroll please: DrrrrrDrrrrrDrrrrr:

Writing prompts: your story, your choice!

Glitch in the Matrix

You and your friend see this while riding the subway. He jokes about how the world is just one big simulation. But is not the first time noticed such weird stuff. You brush it off but over the course of a few days, you start noticing more and more glitches.

Heavenly Lottery

Heaven. It was awesome, for about a week. Everything you could possibly want, it just appears. But after a while, you start seeking out some excitement again. You decide to buy a Heavenly Lottery ticket. Jackpot: a butterfly. One chance to change events on Earth, however you are fit.

Shady Transaction

Cold. The rain's pouring down. You didn't even want to be hear in the first place, but it's not like you have a choice. Finally, the man arrives. 'Can I see it?' you ask. "Show me you're able to pay first, 2 Bitcoins."

Best of luck everyone! I look forward to your entries. Let's have some fun writing.
If you have any questions, leave them in the comments.

Kind regards.

Shady Transaction

Give me a moment, trying to find my words. Been a long night. It all began 17 years ago, 2238. Seems like a lifetime ago. ELKON they called it. Promised it would replace the need for food. Just one little pill. Invention of the century. Food shortages were as common as polluted air back then. So, eh, sorry, I’m a little out of breath. Yeah, in the beginning. For a while, everything was great. No more need for food, who could be against that? Seems like the greatest invention of all time, doesn’t it? That’s what we thought. Took two years. Hallucinations, it happens you know. Nobody suspected it with ELKON. But when the looney bins started filling up…
And there were other side effects too. Memory loss, convulsions. Some just went plain old crazy. Going back to eating food though, no way. Food production was way down, but even then, people wouldn’t have traded their daily dose for gold if you asked them to.

Always told them not to touch it. To stay away from that poison. They would listen, couldn’t really. Called me crazy, a lunatic. Well, this crazy lunatic just managed to buy one of the last pure doses of ELKON. Gonna save all of humanity! Or maybe I’ll feed it to my cat. Who knows… I’m crazy, right?

Just in time! The voting post will be up in a minute :)

thats great, cant wait for the stories to pour in. Who knows, maybe I will even write one

Hope you will! Do you like any of the writing prompts?

They are all thought provoking and leave plenty of room for an open ended story

This looks like fun! How many words? At first glance the Heavenly Lottery prompt appeals to me the most. Should we start with a summary of the prompt first?

An ideal submission would be around 500 to 600 words, but it is totally up to you. After the deadline I will make a voting post, so write something long enough to catch the interest of the reader, but not so long that they will skip it ;)

Okay, sounds good :)

Howdy @beordo, good post! I am a fairly new Steemian who just got started here. It would be great if you could check out my latest post and hit the follow button if my writing interests you. Thankyou!
