Cooking At Home: Burek

in #food6 years ago (edited)

Hello guys. Today I would like to show you how you can make burek. Burek or borek is a tasty meat or cheese pie made with filo pastry originating from the Balkans and eastern Mediterranean countries where it is a very popular street food sold on every corner. It is usually enjoyed as an afternoon snack.

You will need:

0.5kg minced beef

450g package of filo pastry

50g of melted butter

1 chopped potato

1 chopped onion

1 tablespoon of paprika

Salt

Pepper

Preheat the oven to 200C. Brown the beef in a pan for five minutes then drain. Add potato, onion, paprika, salt, and pepper. Move to a pot and stir until the vegetables soften. Remove from fire. Unfold the pastry. Grab two sheets. Divide the meat mixture into eight parts. Put 1/8 of the meat mixture on two sheets of pastry and create a roll. Do the same with the other sheats and the rest of the beef mince mixture. Place the rolls next to each other in the circular baking dish until you cover the whole surface. Make sure there is no space between the rolls as this should all form a single pie when baked. Bake for twenty minutes to half an hour. When it turns golden brown your burek is ready to be served. Bon appetit!
