About Cleansing Foods
The body needs food and fluid to survive and perform daily functions. Over the course of time, and after continuous bad eating habits and breathing of impure air, the body can become toxic and the colon can become backed up. This may not necessarily be life-threatening, but it can cause uncomfortable symptoms such as headaches, fatigue and bad breath. Cleansing foods are often called upon to get the body back to par.
Eliminating Some Foods
Foods that can cause toxicity and that are hard to digest are eliminated from the diet in favor of cleansing foods. Examples of these are high-fat meats, dairy products, fast foods, fried foods and processed carbohydrates. Sugar-laden beverages and alcohol are also eliminated.
Function
When eating cleansing foods, the goals are to rid the body of backed-up waste material and toxins, and to improve the function of the organs that are in charge of elimination such as the liver, kidneys, colon, lungs and skin.
Features
The foods involved with this plan are easy to digest, low in fat and organic. The organic aspect of them is an important factor, as these foods aren't raised or treated with chemicals, pesticides, antibiotics or hormones. If conventional foods were consumed, they would put toxins right back into the system.
Types
Fiber is a key ingredient when it comes to cleansing foods. It can't be absorbed in the stomach, and it helps eliminate toxins and backed-up waste matter from the colon. Foods that are high in fiber include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, seeds and nuts. Small amounts of chicken and fish are also consumed, as long as they are organically raised. The fruits and vegetables are eaten raw--or as close to raw as possible--and are also made into fresh juices. Nuts, seeds and whole grains are sprouted to make them more digestible. This is done by soaking them overnight in a container filled with water.
Alkaline
The alkaline diet is specifically designed to flush toxins from the system and purify the blood. The idea is that when the body becomes acidic, it's more prone to diseases, colds, sinus and the immunity can be compromised. Foods that are high in alkalinity are then eaten to help balance the acid in the body. Examples of alkaline foods are avocados, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, leafy greens, celery, cucumbers, apples, apricots, sea vegetables and wheat grass.
Water
Water is the main fluid that is consumed when eating cleansing foods. It has zero calories, helps with hydration and it helps promote the elimination of toxins.
