What's the best way to follow National Cheese Fondue Day ??

MORE CHEESE!!!!

Luckily, whoever is in charge of assigning dates to all of these super yummy delicious foods apparently agreed, because today is National Grilled Cheese Day !

By the way, if any of you got the memo about voting for these holidays to come into being, let me know. I certainly did NOT, and I am rather offended for being left out.

Seriously though, who doesn't like grilled cheese?

I don't know anyone from the ages of 8-80 that would pass up a steaming hot pull-apart-and- burn-your-mouth-because-you-can't-be-bothered-with-waiting-for-it-to-cool-down hot lava delicious king of sandwiches.

When we think of grilled cheese, most of us will picture the typical one we all grew up with, which is two pieces of white bread slathered with butter and tanned on both sides to perfection with a slice (or two if you were lucky!) of yellow cheese melted in the middle.

While there definitely nothing wrong with that image, there are soooooooooo many ways to create other heavenly, melt-in-your-mouth gooey goodness.

And aren't you the lucky duck, because your horizons are about ready to be broadened!

To put it into perspective exactly how much pride people take in making unique grilled cheese, the Grilled Cheese Academy (yes, there is such a thing!) has a nationwide grilled cheese contest.

I cannot make this stuff up.

They take it pretty damn seriously, too, as there are four different categories and $40,000 in prizes.

40 THOUSAND DOLLARS! FOR GRILLED CHEESE!

I may have to re-evaluate my life.

Anyway, I have found some that would make pretty good contenders, if I do say so myself.

Without further ado, here are 7 grilled cheese recipes you are gonna want ASAP:

1 - Apple Cheddar Grilled Cheese

Source: i am a food blog

For the first choice, I am going with a mash-up that is becoming more popular.

You may think it's strange at first glance, but I assure you, if you have not had cheese with apples, you're missing out.

Personally, I have not had mustard on mine as this blogger recommends. I would also suggest using Granny Smith as the apple. It has a tartness that complements cheddar cheese well and holds up under heat, which is why they're a favorite for apple pies. I'd also use a nice thick slice of the cheddar cheese instead of shredded, but that's just a personal preference. You do you.

2 - Maple Bacon Grilled Cheese Recipe

Grilled cheese is perfection in and of itself.

However, you slap a few nice thick pieces of bacon between those slices of bread and cheese and you have a culinary arts creation worthy of four Michelin stars.

Bacon. 'Nuff said. 🥓

3 - Egg-in-the-Hole Grilled Cheese

If anyone tells you that grilled cheese is not for breakfast, just walk away.

You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

This recipe proves that this sandwich is good any time of day. Switch up the morning and get both your protein and cheese fix with this delicious combination.

4 - Green Grilled Cheese

Now this sounds like something I would try to sneak past my daughter back in the day.

If you're a mom (or dad!) that struggles to get your kids to eat vegetables like many parents do, you are likely always looking for creative ways to sneak them in.

My daughter was not bad with a lot of vegetables, but spinach was definitely not her thing so I wish I would've thought of this.

No worries, though, I used to put a handful or two of the fresh stuff in her morning smoothies and she was none the wiser until years later. 😉

She's in college now, so I guess I'll just have to make this for me and the man. Oh darn.

5 - Brie and Peach Grilled Cheese

Source: The Daily Meal

We've already had the apple and cheddar, so let's try another fruit, shall we?

This recipe combines the sweetness of peaches with the nutty creaminess of Brie and sets it off with Thai chile sauce.

Hannah Hoskins brings us this Chrissy Teigen recipe that I can imagine is an explosion of flavor for your taste buds.

Hmmm...I bet smoked Brie would be pretty spectacular too. 🤔

6 - Five Ingredient Spinach, White Bean, and Parmesan Grilled Cheese

I must admit, I'm intrigued by this recipe.

After all, one of the last things I have ever considered putting on my grilled cheese is beans.

Maybe I'm the only one?

At any rate, this sounds just interesting enough to try!

7 - Baker's Dozen Grilled Cheese

Source: On Safari Foods

Ok so to be honest, this recipe is actually called 'Our Favorite Grilled Cheese Recipe,' and they say it's the best grilled cheese recipe you’ve ever tried at home.

I just had to change the name and make it baker's dozen for the purpose of this post, because it has 13 ingredients.

And takes an hour!!!

Now I don't know about you, but when I want grilled cheese, I want it now!!

That being said, I love trying out unusual recipes so of course, I'm going to have to try this one.

Don't those look scrumptious?

Personally, I usually make mine fairly normal. Sometimes I'll throw some sliced tomato or pickles in there, but otherwise when the craving hits it is just a 'normal' grilled cheese.

What about you? What's your favorite style?

Have you had any like those on the list? If you have or saw one that you're dyin' to try, let me know.

Or if you have a signature grilled cheese, I'd love to hear about it in the comments!

I am super hungry now.

I hope I have cheese. 🧀

Tomato is yummy. If you like pickles, ya gotta try it.

I'll try pickles you try tomatoes

Deal, but all that means is it's your turn since I often put tomatoes in 'em. It was up there in the article somewhere, but I don't blame ya if you just skimmed. I'm long-winded sometimes. 😁

Now go get cookin' lol 🍞🧀🥒

ROFL I didn't miss it " Sometimes I'll throw some sliced tomato or pickles" but I didn't recall when I made the second comment , there's my excuse . ;)
That's great you pointed it out :)
I do make a point to read the whole post and any comments on all . I even go into the blog and review the comment that they make if any . (engagement) I believe that is why I selected you even though you were not a follower :)

I do enjoy the engagement WTG

are you in any of the discord channels ?

Lol I love that you grabbed the exact line. 🍅🍅🍅

I do the same thing. Well, in the short time I've been here so far. Ya gotta engage! After all, if someone takes time out of their day to not only read my stuff but actually write something on it, it'd be rude not to acknowledge that.

Plus who doesn't hate being ignored?!?! 😆

I am in a few of them: PAL, Shark School, SGG, Steemers, and Curie off the top of my head. Name's the same. I know I saw ya in one of them when I was checking it out the other day but you didn't appear to be on so I didn't say hi, although now I know that doesn't matter.

Still learning. lol

I'm all over the place , maybe to much . I even have my own discord for minnows to help them out with information and exposure . Its easier to promote out of there . The engagement is very important , I call it foundation building . It takes me 15-20 min to make a comment on any post . I call it being deliberate but I know I'm slow . I am very direct and get misunderstood all the time :)
I am learning everyday . This is my first social media platform , so lots of mistakes
you have a great attitude :)

Well, I was going to say I found ya, but I guess you figured that out already lol - thank you.

I agree with the foundation building. No one gets anywhere on their own, especially in something like this. You seem to have the hang of it, and are really helpful to all of us that have arrived after you!

I get you on the deliberate thing. I usually change up what I write numerous times; mainly because I'm a bit of a smartass and it's sometimes rather difficult to convey that I am not being malicious when it's online. That's why I often use a lot of smiley faces.

Now if only there were smiley faces in real life...🤔

Okay, so I'm going to admit to being one of those very few odd people who is fine with grilled cheese on occasion, but would much rather have some other kind of sandwich.

But I can see it's mainly because every cheese sandwich I've ever had have never been nearly as adventurous as all of these! How can it be that I've been living such a sheltered life?

The problem is, now I want to try them all, but it's way too late to be eating anything!

Thanks for sharing all of this. I'm excited. :)

I know, right?!?! The possibilities are endless!

I'm glad I could un-shelter you a bit...now you can raid your fridge for lunch like a kid in a candy store and start experimenting 😊

#4, 5 and 6 are my favourites!

They do look yummy. I've done spinach in them but have never even considered beans so I'm quite intrigued. 🤔 Thank you for stopping by and commenting!

Now I don't know about you, but when I want grilled cheese, I want it now!!

You've got a kindred spirit right here. If only I could have someone else prepare that Baker's Dozen Grilled Cheese Sandwich in advance. I've tried using 3 cheeses, including cream cheese, on my sandwiches before and it turned out great, but this recipe just takes it to top. And its prepared with mustard and cajun seasoning too. Great flavors all around.

Yeah, when I get hit with a grilled cheese craving the last thing I want to do is a bunch of cooking and not have it for an hour! I do add multiple cheeses most of the time and sometimes sliced tomato or pickles to switch things up.

But that one looks phenomenal. I'm planning on actually making that for dinner soon with a side salad. I figure that way I'll actually do it because I know it'll never happen during a cheese craving 😋 I also think I'm going to use my homemade creole with chipotle powder instead of the Cajun; give it a nice smokey flavor with a bit of spice.

Great, now I'm hungry! Lol thank you for stopping by and commenting.

I'm back to say that I tried the Baker's Dozen recipe for Sunday dinner and it was amazing. I had to make some changes since I didn't have Monterrey Jack and Gouda on hand and I'm trying to cut back on sugar, so I used less of the sweet stuff. But, it still turned out great.

Keep these recipes coming!

Oh really, that's awesome!! Thank you for stopping back by to let me know - too cool of you!

Did you leave out the cane syrup? When I saw the recipe that was the first thing I figured I would change. (I can't follow recipes word for word to save my life. It just cannot be done.)😁

I'd love to hear what cheeses you used instead and if it really took an hour!

It didn't take me an hour. Maybe just 30 mins? The longest part was cooking the onions and peppers. Though, maybe it was faster than expected cause I used low-medium heat, rather than just low heat. And I grated the cheese rather than slicing, so maybe that took less time to melt, too.

Cane sugar and syrup was another thing I didn't have so I just substituted muscovado sugar for both. I melted it with a little butter for the syrup. As for the cheeses, I used 2 kinds of cheddar from a pack of flavored cheddars I got recently. However, I must say, it really was the cream cheese that stood out. I think, I could've made it with other cheeses and it would still be good.

Haha an impatient one like myself lol. It sounds like it was delicious. You can never go wrong with cheddar, and I imagine that with the cream cheese complemented one another perfectly.

Thank you for taking the time to let me know...I really want to make it now. 😋

I'm a creature of habit. Back in the days when I could eat bread (many decades ago) every lunchtime I would go into the coffee shop on the ground floor of our building and ask for a ham and cheese toasted sandwich (what we call grilled cheese in NZ), no pepper. So of course, my nickname in there was Pepper.

Ah that's awesome lol. I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't eat bread. I love experimenting with sandwiches in my panini maker, which you'll probably see in some of my posts at some point.

In other news, I must admit I'm a bit jealous you live in NZ. I have always wanted to visit; it looks so beautiful there!

It is lovely here!

I make some paleo breads with nut flours and eggs, and sometimes buy some ready made paleo breads and wraps. But mostly I've adapted to not having bread. I don't do well on a lot of carbs anyway. I just have to have more cheese to make up for it!

Ooooh I'd be interested in trying that. I love making bread and experimenting with different kinds but haven't tried any paleo yet.

And there's nothing wrong with more cheese! 🧀 😊

love any kind of cheesy foods.

Me too! Thank you for stopping by!
