WHO IS MY NEIGHBOUR?
WHO IS MY NEIGHBOUR?
We must love our Neighbours like ourselves! Two very difficult assignments.
First – how can I love myself? Only I know how rotten I am, what I think, do and act. Most of it not something I would like to share with others. I know for sure that about every other human being feels the same. Love? We love our parents, partners and children with all their mistakes. They are not the most beautiful models on the outside, neither angels inside. But yet, we love them to death. Then why not ourselves? Why are we so hard on ourselves but not on others? Look at yourself through the eyes of Jesus. A beautiful child who is trying its best to cope in a very sinful world. Once we achieved that, we can look at the second Command. Our Neighbours. Growing up in an Afrikaans house I was quite shocked when I heard the English version of our Bible. In Afrikaans Neighbours are “Naaste”. That means all people. I thought it very unfair that English people must love only their Neighbours, but the rest of the world must love everybody. It took a while before I learned that it actually has the same meaning. Neighbours are each and everybody that walk this earth and has got a soul. How is it possible to love everybody? Very easy. Look at the Ten Commandments and do not wish anything bad to another human being, no matter whom or what they are. Live in peace with yourself and wish everything good to other people without jealousy or judging them. To be able to love yourself and pray for goodwill for all other human beings is a complete peaceful way of living. That is why our God made it the most important Commandments.
