Trying some Korean Rice Cakes - Yopokki Black Bean Tteokbokki Cup! 😍

Hello again!

Around this time last year, I visited Birmingham and I tried hotpot for the first time. To be honest, I've been missing it ever since...

It was an amazing experience, but the one specific thing that stood out to me above all else was rice cakes.

I'd absolutely love to get hot pot again some day!! Next time I'll be able to make a post about it- I'm excited already!

Now, obviously this isn't the same as hot pot rice cakes, but I wanted to treat myself to this black bean rice cake cup I found in Tesco when I visited recently in this post!

Here's the preparation process:

The instructions are written in English, Korean and depicted with little thumbnails- super accessible and easy to follow!

I've bought plain packs of rice cakes before, they're very simple to make! Just 2 minutes in the microwave or the stove usually!

When opening the packet, you receive the rice cakes and the powdered broth separately. You don't get many rice cakes for the price but they are definitely filling.

I added the powdered broth with the rice cakes, and then I poured boiled water on top and mixed it all together.

I then put it in the microwave and heated it for 2-2:30 minutes! I was worried it was going to spill but luckily it didn't. :)

This was my dinner, so I wanted to add some vegetables to feel more healthy lol. I cut up a quarter of a bell pepper and a nice chunky bit of cucumber.

The finished/dished up meal! It was so tasty, I love rice cakes, they're one of my favourite foods, the texture is really nice to chew, and soft- it's really satisfying. I need to buy more packets of rice cakes soon so I can make more plain ones and add my own sauces, next time I do my weekly food shop I'll try to add some, maybe I'll even do a haul post with details and prices! :D

The black bean broth was really delicious, I can't really describe it. I was worried it would be a bit spicy but luckily it wasn't!

I'm a big soup girl so I tend to add more water to little noodle pots / rice cake pots like this because I love a nice hot soupy drink after eating. :)

Adding the vegetables for after was a good move as I felt a bit hot afterwards, I liked the nice, cold crunch!

This rice cake cup cost me £2.25 I think, which is around 14 STEEM. Perhaps a bit pricey for the amount you get, but I guess here, the UK, it's more of a novelty? I don't normally come across rice cakes, let alone little rice cake cups like these!
