Horseradish - a few fun facts

Amorica rusticana - mon amour! Hot, humble horserdish. Fun facts - used medicinally for erectile dysfunction; commercial wasabi is mostly horseradish; protects against mutagenic effects of environmental toxins; 10 x the anti-cancer action of broccoli; horses don't like it.

Very interesting. Is the horseradish used for erectile dysfunction consumed or used as a poultice?

Erectile function is both nitric oxide and androgen (male sex hormone) dependent, and is compromised by adrenal fatigue, stress, hypothyroidism, or metabolic syndrome. Important too is regulating blood pressure. Horseradish works on androgens and blood pressure, with high potassium to ensure balanced fluid levels body wide. Blood pressure is also regulated by hawthorn berry tea - this magical herb will lower high blood pressure, and raise low blood pressure, as needed by the body. Nitric oxide also works on blood pressure, and can be best found naturally in beets.

Beets contain nitrates, which are extracted in the stomach and conveyed to the salivary glands at the rear of the mouth. Bacteria there convert the nitrate to nitrite which when well mixed with saliva leads to the formation of nitric oxide in the stomach when the saliva is swallowed, which is used as a blood pressure lowering drug. So nitric oxide helps by not only guarding against high BP (via dilation of blood vessels), but is directly involved in mediation of erectile function in the penile tissue itself. Watermelon contains the precursor to arginine which facilitates androgen production, and further works with nitric oxide to foster erection. Oats are also high in arginine, and a GABA promoting food, with subsequent neural relaxation, also beneficial.

The instinctual crossing of my legs indicates a horseradish poultice may be too hot for the nether regions! Taken internally, as in horseradish sauce or wasabi. I also make a thing I call 'Hungarian Sauerkraut" which has rosemary and horseradish added to the cabbage.

All the best,

Tom

And here is my previous post of a horseradish sauce recipe - https://steemit.com/health/@celestialroots/fermented-horseradish-sauce
