Rediscovering a love for a sandwich; with a twist!

in #food6 years ago (edited)

The other day I was reading the beginning of a brand new novel by a friend of mine Kevin J. Anderson called Spine of the Dragon and I took a break to, among other things, get myself a snack.

I was rummaging around in the kitchen with limited options and trying to decide what I want. It occurred to me I had the ingredients for a sandwich I hadn't made in YEEEAARS!!!

A banana sandwich.

But this would be the first time I had an organic banana sandwich since I began changing my diet several years back.

I had all the ingredients: bread, mayonnaise, and banana.

But I realized I had something else which would be outstanding!

Strawberries!

I have always loved the strawberry-banana blend, so with my organic strawberries I decided to create what may have been the first ever publicized (if not first ever) strawberry-banana sandwich!

I say "publicized" because after I made it, I created a live video on Facebook.

Earlier tonight I decided to make another one, and I took pictures. I've already posted on Facebook, but I figured I'd show you all my creation so you may decide to create one as well! You don't have to use the same brands as I do, and if you don't eat organic, well, I feel for your health, but that's your choice!

Here you see all of the ingredients.

Take a couple of pieces of bread and spread some mayonnaise on both. Get about three healthy and plump strawberries. Peel a banana.

Cut up the banana into circular slices. Put some on a piece of bread, leaving space between each for the strawberry. Put the rest next to the bread so you can cut up the strawberries.

Slice the tops off of the strawberries. Munch on the red part and toss the green leaf, or munch on it if you'd like. From top to bottom slice the strawberries in half, then in quarters and eighths. Depending on the size of the strawberries, even into sixteenths.

Cut all of those pieces into two pieces each.

IMG_20190608_192817.jpg

Put pieces of the strawberries in the spaces left between the banana pieces to form one layer.

Put strawberries on bananas and bananas on strawberries to create a second layer.

IMG_20190608_193029.jpg

Form a third layer if you dare with the pieces left over. Anything left after that, just munch on.

Should be a fairly thick sandwich once you've put the other piece of bread on top.

Cut in half and enjoy with a glass of freshly brewed sweet tea!

Tea made:

  • boil reverse osmosis water until it's quite bubbly
  • put eight small tea bags (organic black tea) into the water to steep
  • cover
  • put a cup of organic raw cane sugar into a pitcher
  • after steeping, take each bag out one at a time squeezing into the brewed tea
  • pour hot brewed tea onto sugar so it melts into the tea
  • stir generously
  • put cold water in with the tea (might not want to use a glass pitcher for mixing)
  • stir generously
  • add ice and/or put in refrigerator for an hour

Enjoy! Let me know if you ever decide to create this your own self!

I don't eat as many sandwiches as I use too, but banana sandwiches were part of my childhood. It may sound funny, but the way my Mom made it was to put mayo on one piece of bread and peanut butter on the other piece of bread. she usually sliced the banana down long ways and made 3 slices which fit inside nicely.

I have never thought to put another ingredient in there, but am imagining that this might be very tasty.

Through the years I have met people who only used mayo or only used peanut butter, while others had never had banana sandwiches and thought it sounded quite weird.
