Red Melon: More Benefits, One Fruit
Red Melon: More Benefits, One Fruit
Red melon is a fruit that has become synonymous with summer, with picnics and can be consumed by the whole family. Besides this, red watermelon is rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and contains very few calories. The refreshing taste of red melon helps us cope with warmth and can successfully represent a healthy and tasty dessert.
It is part of the cucurbitaceous family and contains vitamin A, which maintains the health of the eyes, vitamin C, which strengthens the immune system, helps to heal wounds, prevents cell damage, but also vitamin B6, which contributes to good functioning of the brain etc.
It looks like red melon has the highest lycopene concentration of all fruits and vegetables, even more than tomatoes. Let's not forget about magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, copper, selenium etc.
Red melon reduces body fat
Citrulline, the amino acid present in red watermelons, reduces fat accumulation. Citrulline is transformed by metabolism into arginine. When the body absorbs citrulline, conversion to arginine is then made if necessary. Then, through a series of stages, citrulline blocks an enzyme called TNAP, so fat cells retard fat harder.
The anti-inflammatory properties of red melon
It is rich in phenolic compounds, such as flavonoids and carotenoids. Lycopene from red melon is particularly beneficial in reducing inflammation and neutralizing free radicals. Make sure you choose a baking red melon, because that's the only way you can get phenolic compounds.
Red melon: natural diuretic
It is definitely one of the main benefits of red watermelon, known by most people. Red melon is a natural diuretic that helps to increase urine flow, but does not put pressure on the kidneys, unlike alcohol and coffee. Red watermelon relieves pressure on the kidneys when excess fluid is removed.
Strong immune system
Vitamin C in the content of red melon improves the immune system, maintaining cell integrity. The role in wound healing has also been seen in many studies, as vitamin C strengthens connective tissue. Enzymes involved in collagen formation can not function without vitamin C. Rich in potassium, red watermelon regulates the activity of nerves and muscles and determines the degree and frequency with which the muscles contract.
Cardiovascular and bone health
Lycopene from red melon is particularly important for cardiovascular health and it is also an important factor in promoting bone health. Watermelon consumption improves blood flow through vasodilation. Lycopene shields you from oxidative stress, which reduces the activity of osteoblasts and osteoclasts, which means stronger bones for those who consume foods rich in lycopene. Melon is rich in potassium that helps the body to retain calcium in the body.
Melon contains 92% water, and on hot days, summer, helps prevent dehydration. Let's not forget that it also contains vitamin A, which regulates the production of sebum and keeps the skin hydrated.
