I ate the 'Beyond Meat' Burger!
I was taking a pleasant walk in the Vancouver's Kitsilano neighbourhood when i encountered a Tera V Burger restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they were offering the Beyond Burger patty which i thought was only available in America! I assumed we had a while to wait before our Health ministry okayed it but no, it's here right now!
I ordered the Beyond patty with the No Bull Deluxe burger which includes honey mustard and monterey jack cheese. At first bite the taste seemed pretty subtle. But as i continued the complexity of the patty began to reveal itself.
The detail this burger has that i haven't found in any other veggie burger patties is the crunchiness you get in the sear of the outer layer of a grilled patty. In a real meat burger it's that darker brown, crispy, crunchy, chewy textured surface layer of the patty with slightly more exaggerated burger flavour than the inside. Beyond Meat seems to have cracked the code on the outer sear. That goes a long way to replicating the real meat burger experience.
Apart from the sear, the rest of the burger is similarly satisfying and tasty. I wouldn't say the burger flavour is a perfect replication. If i were to put a number on it, i'd say it's about 80% of the way there. But i think it's a fantastic alternative and a delicious option in it's own right.
It's a little pricier than your average veggie burger (at this restaurant, it was about 40% more than the house veggie burger), but i think it's worth the price increase and at least definitely worth a try!
Wow! That looks delicious and sounds pretty good too! I love the 'No Bull Deluxe Burger'...very clever name!!
haha ya, it's the Tera V specialty burger, it's very tasty!
I haven't seen those in the UK, but maybe I just need to look harder lol
While not the same as a beef burger, they're particularly good charbroiled.
yes i did notice it really complements the charbroiled flavour
