Three month in Asia - Vietnam, Phu Quoc, Epizode - #6 (about food)
Hey! Hello today is very very tasty day. I decided to start story about food on Phu Quoc Island and in Vietnam overall. We with my wife and friends lived on Phu Quoc for three month so I know some facts about local cafe and restaurants there. As every other person we need meals everyday.
However we often had pretty good breakfast at home and evening fruits too but also we went for a walk and for a food in some local cafe.
What can you eating at Phu Quoc
First time we went to city Zuon Dong we were just newbies:
- have known nothing
- have seen nothing
- had no motorbikes
- always walk and look
It was good days because we could watch anything in city: people doings, stores and shops, cafe and restaurants, streets and buildings. Since we have bought motorbikes we watched nothing except the road. However first week was enough for that city. Let me tell about cafe and food.
1. Very tasty little friend we have met near out house. It was rather big cafe with not friendly price-list but with grate amount of fresh seafood. There were really fresh actually alive food.
2. It is well-known Vietnamese fish souse. Don't you feel the smell of rotten fish? Heh, Than you've never been in Vietnam - every little inch of Vietnam have such aroma. It's impossible to eat if you know how it was made. However there are not many traditional specialities witch are made without it. You just need to taste it
3.Here we met a good Russian-speaking Vietnamese man as an owner of that cafe. There are a lot of Russian speaking people on Phu Quoc. Actually Vietnamese don't like to speak English and it not easy to understand them. So we had to show them the pictures of thing we want to buy. That why we were always happy when met someone who speak English or Russian
4. Hey, there is a frog BBQ. Those pretty yummy piece of meat is a real frog. There are a lot of frog in any cafe and restaurants on Phu Quoc Island. People like to eat frogs in Vietnam they also like to eat other strange things too. You can buy alife frog at the market and ask to cook it as you want. I tell about it oneday
5. Frog price-lists. The price of one well cooked frog in different cafe is 100 000 -150 000 Vietnamese dongs (from 5 to 6 US dollars). However we found some good places where you can buy whole rousted frog for only 1,5$ so when you'll come on Phu Quoc I'll show it for you
6. On Phu Quoc are very popular a cafe for poorest - local cafe. Local cafe are popular in most parts of South-East Asia. You can buy the food like other local people it is a real 100% traditional food. One dish or meal costs 1-2$. May be this places are not looked hygienic or clean but people like to eat there and nobody have problems with the health
7. The food in local cafe is not so bad. It looks very tasty and OK it is really very tasty
8. So it was our first experience with local food. This place became one of the loved places on all island because of wonderful Pho Bo with seafood
9. As you see in this apothecary they understand Cyrillic.
10. Do you remember I told about Phu Quoc market? This is another one witch works only at night. I'll tell about it in other posts
11. We were eating fresh fruits everyday. Vietnam is so-called fruit Paradise. There are a lot of different fruits you can buy there for most pleasant price. For example 1 kilo of mango for 0.5$ and whole big pineapple for 80 cents
12. McDonald Phu Quoc - I'm loving it. A lot of fruited and fresh seafood that's why I want to comeback there
13. One may be very tasty frog. Yes, you can find your food right at your house wall. Vietnamese do like this but we set it free.
14. Evening amount of fruits just before to go to bed. We have eaten something about half of tonne of fruits in Vietnam. Tree times daily it was pretty good diet
