Today's Sustainable Feast in the Garden of Eden

in #food7 years ago

It is another great day in the Garden of Eden, and we are giving thanks for more than enough of everything in this abundant life of freedom!

We made a delicious feast for our volunteers today, and because we have below freezing weather we prepared the food indoors on our wood burning stove rather than on the rocket stoves of our sustainable outdoor kitchen! We stayed nice and toasty, had a fantastic meal, AND heated water for showers for super sustainable efficiency. As usual, there was more than enough food for everyone, and we are happy to share our abundance with you!

Today we made a colorful feast!

We made pan fried chicken, orange ginger beets with green beans, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and beet greens with goat cheese, a fresh salad, and a hearty spiced applesauce!

We started with our huge daily salad with lots of bright veggies! We piled grated carrots, sliced bell peppers, juicy red tomatoes, chewy raisins, crunchy sliced almonds, hemp seeds, and creamy sliced avocados on top of crisp mixed greens.

For a side, we peeled, sliced, and boiled beets, and tossed them with lightly sautéed green beans in a light orange and ginger sauce. We sprinkled it with sliced almonds and more orange zest for fresh pop of flavor.

We also filled a Dutch oven with sliced sweet and regular potatoes, onions, and garlic. We lightly steamed them, poured in a little cream, and added chopped beet greens. When the veggies were soft, we added delicious, tangy, creamy dabs of goat cheese!

For today's main dish for our carnivores, we lightly breaded thin pieces of white meat chicken in a mixture of flour and herbs, then we pan fried them in hot olive oil until crispy.

For our standard winter table condiment, we prepared a small bowl of raw chopped garlic and herbs in olive oil. Just a drizzle adds a potent burst of flavor as well as powerful antimicrobial compounds to keep the body healthy in this cold weather!

Lastly, we made a spiced applesauce to serve with the chicken or as another side. This chopped apples simmered with cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and allspice along with some dried blueberries and pecans for extra crunch!

It was a wonderful spread with plenty of food for all our volunteers!

Delicious, wholesome, AND sustainable food shared in good company makes for a fantastic meal!

Food is important, and we hope to inspire people to really take time to eat, enjoy it, and share it with someone you love. We also hope to inspire more and more sustainable practices in regards to food!

We do all of our cooking over fire, using wood that was otherwise destined to end up in a landfill! This is one of our rocket stoves in action - we built it by hand out of dirt.

Food is an honored & elemental part of our daily life in community. You can learn more about our unique, intimate, and super sustainable relationship with food here!

Photos are original to our epic feast and highlight just a taste of the thousands upon thousands of free meals we share every single year.

We are happy & grateful to share our abundance - there's more than enough of everything! If you or anyone you know wants or needs food, contact us - we will give you free food, no questions asked. We make this offer every single day, because we are here to help one and all.

I have been making an effort to prepare hot meals to take to work for lunch. I am suddenly remembering that food can be enjoyable instead of rushing through a "fast sandwich" and a glass of milk. I am actually feeling satisfied that I'm preparing good, balanced, interesting meals. Finding your site has been an inspiration and a blessing. It also makes my mouth water! Seriously! Guess I've been deprived in the interest of time.

How wonderful to hear about your renewed gratitude & inspiration for food @aerialpegasus! Having wholesome food you enjoy preparing and eating is much more nourishing for the body than taking in something you don't like very much or really connect with. May you continue to get healthier and healthier!

Wow this is very luxurious, I'm sure it would taste good enough to be enjoyed. Is this food your favorite?

We have a lot of people in our ecovillage, and each person would likely say they have a different "favorite" food. In general, delicious, wholesome, SUSTAINABLE food is indeed our favorite things to cook and eat!

I like you

Wooooow it‘s the first time I see one of your Posts. And of course, your profile.

What a great work you are doing here.
It’s a blessing for so many people. Take your time to eat and share it with someone you love. Excellent.

This is worth my full upvote :)

Thanks for your support @modernpastor! How great that we can connect here on Steemit.
Food is so important! It's a great honor to share our abundance and to inspire others to reconsider their relationship with food.

The way you guys are serving steemit is mind blowing. Your delicious dishes attract every steemian, but you guys are too far from us.
Colorful feast looks so cool, due to weather all the meal was prepared on the heat of woods inside. This is too a good practice. I appreciate your routine. Thanks for sharing great stuff @gardenofeden, keep it up!

Thanks for the comment and support.
Yes we care very much about Steemit and the world. We do our best to be the change we want to see in the world every day.

This looks so delicious - I've been eating chicken nearly every night and I'm going to have to figure out how to make it pan-fried like that.

It's super easy. Dredge the chicken in some seasoned flour, and place it in hot oil in a skillet.
If you want a thicker coating, you can dredge in flour, dip in egg, then dredge in flour again. We recommend using more hot oil in the skillet if you go with a thicker coating.

That food looks super delicious and really very colorful so much that you do not eat like that here in my country Venezuela so I bless your abundances and may God multiply them so you can continue to help many people.

Thank you! We hope to reach more and more people - there is truly enough of everything, the solutions are available, but humans must have a huge revolution in their values! It has to become important and a priority to take care of each other.

wow! love this kinds of food...

I really love to cook and everytime I see new recipe and even photos of good food I like to try this in my kitchen... of course food that are healthy too...

That rocket stove is pretty cool. Great efficiency, right?

Your meal has so many different things going on my lord, my mouth's tastebuds would be popping!

And again, all harvested right there with what y'all have, I love it!

Rocket stoves are awesome! Cooking over fire is great fun, we built them ourselves out of dirt, and we burn free "trash" wood for fuel. It is so enjoyable to cook outside too!

Yes we prefer flavor explosions. We specialize in something we like to call mouthgasms :)
