Wanna kick sugar habits? Try this super delicious HUMMUS dish !

in #food7 years ago (edited)

Let's be honest. Saturated fats and refined sugars are poisoning our bodies. They are everywhere, even in ready made products you do not expect. Our eating habits of fast-food and stacks of cookies, cake, donuts and starches, make us not only obese and tired, but are badly effecting our blood circulation and the condition of our heart. For those who crave sugars, there are plenty of great sweet fruits at your grocery store: apples, bananas, blueberries, raspberries and melons, just to give an example.

Vegetables like zucchini and guacamole (mashed avocado) are a great transition from sweet to savory foods. There is nothing better than a toast with guacamole and some hot pepper in the morning, provided you ‘quench’ it with natural sugar free yoghurt afterwards. :-)

A regular healthy ‘filler’ is this famous protein recipe here below. People in the Middle-East eat it for breakfast as well. Very delicious to combine it with grilled slices of green, red and yellow paprika and eggplant.

Hummus
(correct pronounciation: Hoommoos)

Hummus is a super healthy and delicious dish, rich in protein and vitamin C. Famous in Middle-East countries like Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Syria and Turkey. The base of this dish is Tahin (also Tahini or Tahina), a paste made of sesame seed. This is mixed with mashed chickpeas, garlic, lemon juice, salt and a little bit of cumin. This dish is best eaten with pita bread.

Ingredients:

140 ml Tahin (sesame paste)
250 ml Chickpeas (welled and cooked)
3-4 table spoons of water
3 lemons (squeeze to juice)
4 fresh garlic toes (mashed in garlic press)
Salt (half a tea spoon)
Cumin (half a tea spoon)
3 table spoons of pure Olive Oil

Optional: garnish with parsley, za’atar (spice) or paprika powder.

Pour the Tahin paste in a bowl and mix it with a mixer, adding gradually the water and lemon juice. Add just another spoon of water if need be, because you should see the Tahin becoming a whiter and softer mash. Add the Chickpeas in the mixer with the mashed garlic, the salt and cumin, and some extra lemon juice. Mix it together to make it softer.

Serve in a bowl and squeeze it here and there, and pour some olive oil as the above image shows. Garnish on top with the optional dressing. Making this delicious dish requires a ‘chef’ with some flair to get it right. But with some exercise you will.

Enjoy!!
