Superstitions related to food
We all human beings have some common beliefs that may or may not have any logic or any relation to the reality and that may be called as superstitions.
Even if we say that we are not superstitious, there may be something that we believe without knowing the reason of it.
There are many superstitions related to food items we will see today.
- Lemon and chilles
It is said that hanging lemon and 7 green chillies tied in a cotton thread at the doorstep helps us keep the evil energy away from us.
- Curd
Many of us has come across this practice where mothers feed us curd with sugar while going for any exam or interview.
Behind this belief, the logic may be that, curd is probiotic and gives cooling effect during stress and sugar has soothing effect.
- Salt
It is said that spilling salt brings bad luck.
The reason may be it was very costly in the past.
It is also said that salt should not be kept in a bowl, otherwise it may absorb negative energy.
- Milk
In farming community,it is said that borrowing milk after sunset reduces the products of milk by the animals.
- Garlic
It is believed that garlic keeps evil eye away from us.
So in some communities, garlic is kept in the room of a newborn baby.
- Turmeric
Turmeric is known to keep negative energy away from us so people tie some turmeric in red cloth and keep it in any corner of the room to stay away from negative energy.
- Onion
Some people keeps an onion full of pins at the window to protect the house from bad spirits.
It is also believed that if you throw onion peeling on the floor, you throw away your good luck.
- Eggs
It is said that if you find two yolks in an egg, it may be the symbol of having twins at the home or fixing someone's marriage in near future.
