Bread Dreams

in #food6 years ago

One of the most interesting experiences i've had was when I started a Bakery course, some years ago. At a time when I had left the university and was looking to learn something useful, and it was just what I needed to motivate me. One, because I appreciated the value of what i was learning, it was something that I was paying for (Because i was working on the streets) and second, because I felt passionate about something for the first time in my life.

The teacher I had was a very relaxed and peculiar guy. He had a little hipster groove (with mustache and all). He was quite a joker, but very serious in his work.
He taught us to be patient and do things with love, also to experiment with the ingredients to achieve that texture and those desired flavors in the mix.

When every class ended, we harvested the fruits of all our effort. We took out the loaves from the oven, and once cooled, they went through "quality control".
It was my favorite part of the whole course, because we were exchanging opinions and advice among ourselves and then writing down every correction. And also because we were eating (a lot).

After having returned to my house with the pile of containers, and of course, with the remaining loaves of bread, I shared with my family (and even my neighbors) what I had done. Everybody were in love after tasting them, and they encouraged me to set up a little bakery or something like that. But for me it was not profitable, because of this situation we are in. Still, I was flattered.

At the end of the course, I had to make the recipes that I needed to get my certificate, because i've had some due. That day I made the best golfeados that I have ever tasted, that filled me with compliments from all those who were present.
I was moved when seeing their faces shined at the first bite.

This aren't golfeados, but they were cool too

I said goodbye to everyone in the institute with a feeling between melancholy and euphoria, thinking about how much they helped me indirectly to grow as a person and to deal with the depression that at that moment tormented me.

Most of all, this experience taught me the value of what one does with their own hands and the love of sharing with others the fruit of your work.

I still dream of opening my own bakery someday.
Some people say that dreaming is the beginning of bigger things ...
