DIET
DIET
The food we eat is processed, refined and chemically modified to produce taste sensation high in calories and low in a nutrient. Our livestock are fattened with growth enhancers and antibiotics. The result is a bigger animal with three times fat as range-fed cattle. Now we are paying through our nose for these modifications.
CAN FOOD CAUSE DISEASE?
According to statistics, in 1990, about 10 to 15 % of Americans die from heart diseases and stroke. How many people die from stroke each year in the united states? today it is 45%. before now 6%die from cancer, today the number is exceeding 25%.
We aren’t meant to die in such numbers from heart attacks and stroke, diabetes, lung, breast, prostate and colon cancers. These began to emerge significantly after the world war| and become common only after the world war!!, when people began to buy food that is rich in animal products and when industries began producing highly processed foods crammed with calories and devoid of nutrients.
Epidemiology reveals that most of these killer diseases are lifestyle related. They are what I will like to call this disease of affluence (too much to eat and drink, a bad habit like smoking and little or no exercise. Medical sciences can only treat the symptoms but not the cause. It’s our duty to fight the cause and reduce the frequency of their occurrences if not eradicate them.
ARE WE RESPONSIBLE FOR OUR OWN ILLNESS?
Yes, we are responsible for our own bad health. The solution of which does not depend on doctors or technological advancement or on the quality of services the hospital provides but by our lifestyle choices. Good health today depends largely on ourselves as individuals-what we eat, drink, exercise and the level of personal hygiene.
