5 Foods that can be dangerous

Some foods we use daily in the kitchen might have some dangerous effects on our health if they’re consumed in large quantities or if they aren’t used in the right way.

Although they seem harmless and nobody tells you bad things about them, the reality is different. Besides processed foods, which we should avoid as much as we can because they have toxins that are bad for our organism, there are some foods that can cause serious health problems.

Here are 5 aliments that can damage your health.

Rhubarb


Rhubarb leaves are rich in oxalic acid, a substance that can cause kidney stones. Although it would take about 5 kilos of rhubarb in order for it to be dangerous, even in smaller quantities it can cause serious problems.

Nutmeg


We use it often in cakes and tea, but nutmeg is actually a hallucinogen. 5.5 grams can cause cramps and 8 grams can even cause a seizure. If you eat a nutmeg, it can lead to psychosis and a profound panic.

Potatoes


The green skin of potatoes bought in markets has a lot of glycoalkaloids, that can cause diarrhea or even a coma or death. Exposure to light can lead to the growth of concentration of these alkaloids, that can produce headaches, diarrhea, cramps and in rare cases, death. But cooking at over 170 Celsius degrees will partially destroy these substances.

Almonds


There are two types of almonds: sweet and bitter. The bitter almonds have high quantities of cyanide that can cause serious health issues to adults and for children they can sometimes be fatal.

Tuna


Tuna is dangerous because it absorbs mercury, which is most of the times removed by the kidney. A big quantity of mercury can go to the brain, in which case it can cause severe damage. FDA (Food and Drug Administration) recommend that children and pregnant women completely avoid tuna.

This is unbelievable and scary. Virtually all we eat contains portion of these foods. What shall we do(?), abstain or continue indulging? I am confused! Thanks @jwolf for this eye opener.

Thank you for this information though the first two foods, I am not familiar with. But the last three foods they are my favorites and often eating it. Thanks for the warning, I will keep this in my mind.

These foods didn't really looks like something that could be harmful,I am sure that many people out there including me before I read this don't know the harmful effects of consuming much of them. This is so enlightening, thanks for sharing
