Summer Salad From My Garden
Back in the D to the garden full of herbs and veggies!
My husband @matt-a and I made it back home last night after being away in Eastern Kentucky for almost three weeks! It was my first time there during summer and it was a lot of fun, we got to check out plenty of cool spots and I am going to talk about it more in my future posts (sorry, gotta edit the photos first).
Right now though, I would like to share a recipe of a simple summer salad you can make if you grow a small garden. This year we didn't plant a lot of things, just a couple pepper plants, some cherry tomatoes and cucumbers. All of the herbs in the photos came back themselves from last year which of course I am very happy about.
Here we go!
Some tomatoes and peppers are already ripe and ready to be picked!
Same goes for parsley and basil :)
So, to make this simple and light dish you are going to need:
- a couple sweet peppers;
- a few cherry tomatoes;
- some parsley;
- some basil;
- a small cucumber;
- extra virgin olive oil;
- salt and black pepper to taste.
Slice and dice all of the ingredients, place them in a bowl, add salt and olive oil, maybe some balsamic vinegar if you're into it and toss.

I was going to go to the green house to buy plants for my garden but they were closed for the season so I didn't get to grow more, oh well. Well hopefully next year I will have a bigger garden.

Oh wow! Sounds like you have a very serious garden going on! My grandparents used to have a pretty big garden too, they grew plums, pears, peaches, apples, a bunch of different berries, a lot of potatoes, grapes and beans, I would always help them around when I was a kid. Now my grandma is really old and she doesn't really do much of gardening anymore.

Thanks a lot! I shall have a good time and hopefully you have a great day as well!
Great photos! I am new on steemit and was looking around since I have great passion in photography! I love your shots! Hope I can upload photos with this quality soon!
Thank you! I try my best!
Abrolutely fantastic camera work right there, @kotturinn. It's always a great feeling to see things grow, specially the ones you have planted on your own. Preparing a salad is not rocket science, but harvesting the ingredients from your own backyard is a satisfying bliss to have. I am sure the salad must have turned out to be as delicious and healthy as beautiful it is, by the sheer looks of it.
And yeah will look forward to your Kentucky stories in your subsequent posts.
Thank you @vinyprop! Yeah salads are super easy to make, which makes them great in my opinion! This time my garden didn't have much variety compared to last year, but there's still something to harvest haha.
I am going to make a post about hiking in Appalachian mountains here in the coming days, hopefully you find it interesting! I am not very good when it comes to writing, but I try to take decent looking pictures haha!
Hey @kotturinn, your writing and your photography both are commendable, in my opinion. Keep up the good work.. ☺️☺️✌️
Thanks, gotta practice more, besides English is my second language.
Ohh is that so? Which is your first?
My native language is Russian :)
Russian being your mother tongue, your English is nothing less than fantastic ☺️☺️. English isnt my mother tongue either, but, since I am from India we have English in our curriculum, right from kindergarten.. 😬😬 It was great to have gotten a chance to interact with you, all thanks to this awesome platform, which connects us all like a global family. A community beyond boundaries. ✌️✌️
Your English is pretty good as well, I didn't even think it wasn't your first language! I think I really started learning English when I was a teenager, it's constant work, you gotta use it daily or else you forget it haha.
A community beyond boundaries indeed! :)
So much fun to harvest your home grown produce, even more fun to eat it :) unfortunately... I have to eat store bought pre-packaged tonight.... thanks for reminding me I had it thou.
Well sometimes we gotta eat whatever we got! Store bought vegetables and fruits are good in my opinion especially if you buy them when they are in season!
I can feel the fresh smell coming from the garden
And i think Lenorka was about to hunt something 😂
Thank you! She actually loves to hunt, sometimes she even digs out earthworms and eats them, nasty!
It is always close to your heart when you can eat from your own garden !
Unfortunately cat don't eat salad.
enjoy it !!
Keep on steemit!!
Agreed and thank you :)! Why can't you eat salads?
Personnaly I enjoy salad. Salad is part of my daily food intake. Wish to have a garden just like yours.
Sorry, I misread your first comment, I thought you said you couldn't eat salads haha, now I see it says cats don't eat them haha
I hope you can start a garden soon!
YUM! Looks so good and fresh :)
Oh it was tasty, I love fresh veggie salads! Thank you!
Such lovely photos of your fresh garden vegetables, fruits, and luscious herbs and kitty cat! I LOVE gardening and cats TOO! In another life one could say we "hold hands together" with our common interests!
Gardening is fun! I wish I had more time to take care of it, while I was gone the weeds took over haha
Incredible photography! Your salad looks so fresh and vibrant. I am able to grow herbs off my small apartment deck, but hope to have a more robust garden like yours one day!
Thank you! My garden is actually not that big at all compared to last year, I have 3 pepper plants and 2 tomato plants, a bunch of cucumbers and some herbs. I think you can grow tomatoes in big pots!
You don;t need to go to vegetable market you can eat vegetables which are grownup in your garden. That's sounds so cool.
Last year I had veggies until late October it was pretty cool, this time my garden needs a lot of tending because I was away, still it's nice to have some food growing in your back yard haha
try to grow up some organic veggies stay healthy forever. ;-)
These ARE organic!
that's great, make your garden bigger and sell them through online. That's a good way to make money too.
Good point @stefan! Do you have any experience selling produce online? I am not familiar with that sorta business. I used to sell knitted accessories I made a couple years ago though.
I actually have an ecommerce organic fruits and vegetables firm. I just started it few months ago. Hopefully i will make it large by the end of 2019.

That is awesome! Your website looks pretty neat too! I am going to look more into it. Do you guys only sell produce or the seeds as well?
