The Magic of Mug Cakes
Ever feel like having a homemade piece of cake and just the thought of baking turns you off? Plus there's the problem of what to do with a whole cake when there are only 2 of you? Stuff your face full of calories and feel guilty the rest of the day 'cause you ate the whole thing?
Of course not! Enter the magical idea of mug cakes. A cake, baked in a mug, perfect for 1 or 2, and ready in less than 5 minutes. Doesn't that sound like the best idea ever?!
And they are super simple to make too! Just a matter of placing the ingredients in a large mug, mixing well, then microwaving for 90 seconds. See, what did I tell you, easy!
I've tried a lot of mug cakes, many of which were too spongy or too mushy, until I arrived at just the right amount of ingredients and cooking time. I wanted to make them about as close to a homemade cake as I could get.
Today's mug cake is a Chocolate Hazelnut flavored cake, made with a kids' favorite ingredient - Nutella. It tastes like a piece of chocolate heaven. Sprinkle with a little powdered sugar to finish it or top with ice cream, it's all good!
If you love the idea of mug cakes, check out my favorite, a Chocolate Lava Mug Cake, which oozes a liquid chocolate center, and my Lemon Mug Cake, drizzled with a sweet-tart lemon glaze. They’ve been taste-tasted and devoured by my family, friends and 2CM followers just to make sure they’re the yummiest they can be.

Yea, I have tried some mug cakes and they come out mushy. Printing out your recipe and giving it a try. Looks yummy! Have a wonderful evening. Tess :)
Let me know what you think if you get a chance to try it. Beware, it's dangerous to make when you're alone - I ate the whole thing! lol You have a nice evening too!
Will do Linda. I am anxious to try.
It looks really amazing but I hate how the microwave changes the taste of things. Is there another way to make it as quickly without the use of the microwave? Good post though. started following
I've never tried this recipe other than in the microwave but I have read articles that say it is possible. Try baking in the oven or toaster oven at 350 degrees for 15-25 minutes depending on doneness desired. The mug would have to be oven-proof as well. The best advice is to use a cake mix and treat is as a large cupcake instead of using a microwave recipe.
Soudns good. Thanks for the tip! Much appreciated.

Thanks @bitrocker2020 ! I love mug cakes because they are so easy and anyone can make one.
I love cake and thought mug cakes were so great when I first came by recipes for them. When I realized i still needed a ton of ingredients, I figured I might as well just make a normal amount and find people at work to eat it, lol! Duncan Hines came out with an instant mug cake. It's a gamechanger for lazy people like myself, but you still need to add in some sundae toppings or a scoop of ice cream to really make it work
Not too many ingredients needed for this one and they are pretty standard staples in the kitchen. The good thing about making the mug cake from scratch is that you know exactly what is going into it and can adjust sugar or add in what you want to change things up. And i have to agree with you, ice cream on top is sooooo good! Hope you have a chance to give it a try.
Too much sugar, but delicious anyway.
They do tend to have quite a bit of sugar as most baked goods do but they're oh so good for a treat! You might like my Almond Butter Mug Cake on 2CookinMamas.com which relies on bananas and a little maple syrup for sweetness instead of sugar. Have a great night.
Took some to the office today... all gone. But then your food always is!

Thank you! I appreciate you stopping by. Hope to see you again soon.
I am so bad with baking (and cooking! Mostly!) but this seems so delicious yet simple. I think I will try to make these this weekend since I am on my vacation so I have plenty of time. Recipe is printed! And on the refrigerator. :-)
I hope you get a chance to try it. What a great idea to make them while you're on vacation. Easy to make and little clean up - bingo! Hope you are having a great one!
This looks absolutely delicious! Will save recipe.
