What Are Mangosteens Good For?
You’ve heard of the acai berry (probably a little more than you wanted to know!), the healing properties of pomegranate and the amazing health benefits of blueberries. While all those fruits are good for you, the mangosteen may be the most powerful.
About the Mangosteen
This little purple fruit that grows on a tropical evergreen tree is found in the depths of southeast Asia and has been used for centuries as a medical cure for ailments ranging from wounds to dysentery. It is said that Queen Victoria offered a handsome reward to those who could fetch her this rare fruit and so it’s nicknamed the “queen of fruit”. It has a grape/strawberry-like flavor that is super yummy!
Mangosteen & Health
What’s so great about the mangosteen? It contains a wealth of antioxidants in the form of xanthones. Xanthones have recently been shown to slow and even stop the growth of cancerous cells. Mangosteen, in fact, the rind of the fruit has one of the highest concentrations of xanthones found in nature.
But xanthones aren’t the only great ingredients found in mangosteen. Many other fruits boast some of the ingredients found below, but none offer all of them in addition to xanthones. Here’s a partial list of some of the other powerful ingredients in mangosteen:
- Polysaccharides
- Polyphenols
- Proanthocyanins
- Anthocyanins
Good to know! I'll have to hunt me down some.
Thank you for sharing this material, I like what you posted. Thank you so much
