Expectation vs Reality in buying a cake

in #food7 years ago

Hello!
So, I would like to tell you a quick story about expectations and how you shouldn’t have them. It all starts with these cute little things right here.

Cakes!

Two days before 2018, my family and I went to the mall to shop for New Year’s necessities. It went fine, although hectic, and we’re about to head home when we came across this…

It’s a bakery we’ve never heard of before. It’s boasting an attention-worthy mascot, a cozy, warm cafe area, and goodies no one could resist.
The whole family stopped in front of the shop and decided that we should buy some bread and cakes, in the spirit of holiday-induced abundance and welcoming 2018.

We bought their special egg tarts and a chocolate cake roll on the go, until we stopped in front of one certain display.

Specially-designed mini cakes! The kind of cakes that are just so irresistible. They have polar bears, angry birds, and more.
I thought, we have to buy at least one for New Year’s, and we did.

In full anticipation, the bear cake that’s just the size of a fist was purchased and handled delicately from the shop to our house. It was a shopping success, the last one for 2017.

What could go wrong?

wrecked

Unbelievable.

From a sweet-looking treat that looked almost too good to be eaten, to looking like a ball of sticky dirt. It was quite a bummer because we’re looking forward to it being the centerpiece of the table.

Of course, we still tried to eat it because hey, it’s cake, and guess what…

It didn’t taste as delicious as it looked. It tasted like it was on the verge of expiry, stale and a bit sour. The same goes with the chocolate cake roll.

In a way, it’s 2017.

It’s probably those leftover cakes that they’re trying to get rid of at the end of the year. We became the unfortunate buyers who were let down one last time.

The good thing that came out from this were the egg tarts. They were perfect.

Another good thing is that we’ll never visit that bakery again.

So, what’s the moral of this story? Never expect anything.
This can apply to life-changing moments or small bear cakes.

As a teacher told us in high school,

“Don’t expect. You’re setting yourselves up for disappointment”.

Harsh, but true.

How about you? Have you ever had an experience where reality didn’t meet your expectations?

Until next time! sparkles

Thanks, it does look yummy! 😁 Unfortunately, it tasted the opposite. 😅
