You like it sweet and fruity already in the morning? Then jam or jam is certainly a welcome guest on your bread or the bun. Although you can buy jam in different price ranges easily in the supermarket - especially the store's own brands are priced unbeatable - but homemade jam is often even cheaper and just tastes much better than the purchased variant. And even more: with home-made jam you are completely free in terms of fruit selection and always know what's in it.

But you do not know how to do that? No problem: Here's a simple step by step guide to making jam yourself. So you can easily, quickly and inexpensively process your favorite fruits to a delicious spread.

Step 1: Preparation of the fruits
First, of course, you have to wash the fruits a bit, peel them if necessary, and then cut them into small pieces (for large fruits). If you want the marmalade a bit lumpier, you just let the pieces get a bit bigger when cutting. If you want it all seedy, you can just puree the fruits.

Step 2: Mix fruits with jelly sugar and bring to a boil
Now mix the fruits of your choice with jelly sugar. (By the way: jam can also be boiled WITHOUT gelling sugar!) For very sweet and ripe fruits gelling sugar is recommended 3: 1 - so you get a homemade jam with high fruit content. When Gelierzucker 1: 1, however, come equivalent to 1 kg of fruit, 1 kg Gelierzucker.

Add the mixture to fruits and jelly sugar in a large pot and cook the jam with occasional stirring until the desired consistency is achieved.

Step 3: Fill jam into jars
At the end, you fill the homemade jam only in marginally cleaned glasses and close it well. Turning the glasses upside down for a few minutes will create a vacuum that will make the homemade jam even more durable. The basic ingredient is sugar, as well as the sorbic acid contained in the jelly sugar. Tip: Adding a little lemon juice not only increases the shelf life of the homemade jam, it also adds a touch of flavor. Especially with summery fruits fresh lemon juice gives the extra freshness kick.
