Vegan Food Shop - #2

in #food8 years ago (edited)

It was evening time in the UK when I headed out to grab some food and after picking up a few items I sat in the small park next to my house as the sun was setting:

There is hardly ever anyone in this little park so it's a great place to chill out. I often sit on the benches under a tree and meditate for some time too, listening to the birds chirp is a delight.

There are a lot of old Victorian buildings in this areas of the city I live in, they look very regal. My late granddad owned a similar type of house to these ones that he ran his PR firm from.

There is also a church across the road too. The bell tower is exposed to the elements in this design. If you look to the left you can see them at the top.

I brought six items in today's shop.

First we have a freshly baked Organic White Loaf 400g:

This particular retailer cooks many of the bakery products fresh each day on site. The fresher the better is definitely a true saying! :)

This shop does sell wholemeal but due to it being the end of the day they only had this one loaf of white left. So even though it doesn't have the rich nutrient value of the brown bread at least it is not grown with nasty chemicals.

White bread still has a good amount of calcium and iron though, great for maintaining healthy and strong bones and blood.

If you take two items side by side, one organic and one non organic, you can taste the difference in quality. The latter has more taste, the goodness is just bursting out of it. Compared to the former non organic choice which is bland, tasteless, and often has a degraded chemical or metal taste. Something that tastes off, unnatural. That is because many of the things that go into making no organic food are harmful and not meant to be ingested by humans.

Organic Houmous 200g

This is probably one of my favorite foods. I never get bored of eating it. It can come in different styles. I like the chilli variant a lot in particular. The one I purchased today however contain another super food: Tahini or sesame seed.

Sesame is packed full of health promoting minerals. It is chocked full of essential nutrients like magnesium and copper. Magnesium is excellent for helping those who suffer from respiratory problems and a adequate supply of copper can help alleviate suffers of rheumatoid arthritis too.

It really is amazing how just the right diet choices can be great preventative and curative measures for health and health problems respectively .

This short video from YouTube captures excellently the great qualities of Chickpeas:

Organic Smooth Peanut Butter 340g

Apart from being a great source of protein, peanut butter is an excellent source of healthy unsaturated dietary fats. In this one tub I got it contains 18.2g of monounsaturated fat and 20.4g of polyunsaturated fat per 100g! This is why I like nut butters so much. I also regularly buy Almond and Pistachio butters too.

This short article from the British Nutrition Foundation explains why some sources of fat are good and others bad: https://www.nutrition.org.uk/healthyliving/basics/fats.html

Organic Soya Milk 1L

Soya Milk is a great alternative to regular milk for many reasons, most importantly of which is that it is far lower in saturated fat. Saturated fats are the lead cause of heart disease and other major health problems. Please see my first edition on this series here for more information on this important topic: https://steemit.com/food/@onesunbeingnow/vegan-food-shop-1 I remember back when I drank milk and someone said to me how disgusting it was to drink the lactations from another species breasts. I didn’t really get it at the time. But now looking back I can say I hold the same view. It is far healthier to drink alternatives to cow’s milk, and also a lot more ethical too. Cow’s milk is pushed on us because of the massive amounts of advertising the milk industry puts into brainwashing the majority of society into thinking it’s a good idea and healthy. When the science now shows that it is bad for health. Milk production is also a horrific part of the meat industry too. As when cows are no longer producing milk they are murdered and butchered up to be eaten, and all their pitiful life was up until this end was an exploitative prison camp of torture, in most cases. Whereas if you support companies who offer soya products not only does your money not go into the meat industry but it flows into helping ethical farmers make the delicious soya based products that are far better for your health. Organic Dates 250g Dates are another favorite of mine, a true super-food. If you are addicted to the bad types of sugary treats then these are a great way to satisfy your urge in a more healthy way. I usually keep a tub full of them and buy in bulk from the health food store, but I’m currently empty. I will be doing a bulk shop soon and will share with you what I get. But for now, here is an awesome image from our friends over at Organic Facts: Organic Bananas Fairtrade 6x Bananas are an excellent way to get enough fiber and carbohydrates and the organic ones taste amazing. They also contain a lot of potassium which has been linked to an increase in happiness. So eat a banana and smile more! :) All the items in today’s shop together: Here is a breakdown for the cost of each item and the total cost overall: Lastly here is a picture of me with the shop: Here is the first article I posted in this series: https://steemit.com/food/@onesunbeingnow/vegan-food-shop-1 Thank you for viewing this post today, and if you enjoyed it and would like to see more then be sure to / https://postimg.org/image/kpom92kp9/

This is a fantastic combo! Peanut butter and banana sandwiches on gluten free bread, sounds good right about now! :p

Its regular bread, just organic. But yes, banana and peanut butter is great :)

Oh My
I am getting hungry
Cool Post
Good Food
and
Healthy too!!

haha thanks...yes indeed, great tasty, healthy food :)

Not really helping with dieting because now everyone is hungry, and wants to consume it all at once. lol

hahaha funny...well that is true, if you have a caloric surplus then it doesn't matter if the food is super healthy you will still become over weight.

It is best when eating to only fill the stomach with 2/4 food, then 1/4 water and leave 1/4 free for air. Making this a habit will prevent the stomach from over stretching and it becomes use to a healthy moderately sized meal.
