keto af
The last 6+ months have been a transformation period for me as far as my health and fitness are concerned. During this time, I've been on at least a modified version of the ketogenic diet. For those of you who don't know, the ketogenic diet is one composed of low carbohydrates (~20 net g or less), moderate protein (~.6-1 g per lb of lean body mass), and high fat (to satiety). Within the last month and a half or so, I've taken a step further and gone paleo as well, eating a lot more vegetables and eliminating all processed foods, dairy, and things like legumes. I'm still tweaking it to fit my lifestyle, but I must say I've never felt better physically and mentally in my life. I have more, sustained energy and increased mental clarity.
This is a typical keto meal. Looks great, doesn't it? We have a ribeye steak (seasoned with salt, pepper, and herbs) with grass-fed butter on top, broccoli deep fried in coconut oil with mustard seed sprinkled on top (to activate sulforaphane, a phytochemical shown to decrease the rate of telomere degradation, a marker of aging), and a whole avocado with cold-pressed, extra virgin olive oil. And yes, it tastes just as good, if not better than, it looks!
