Review: Haute Cuisine with a view at Restaurant Moon - Amsterdam

Yesterday was my lady's 28th birthday. To celebrate we paid a visit to restaurant Moon in the A'dam Tower in Amsterdam.
The A'dam Tower
The A'dam Tower is the former Shell HQ and lab, situated behind the Central Station at the otherside of the IJ.
The A'dam Tower, restaurant Moon is in the glassy round area at the 19th floor.
Dinner with a view
Since restaurant Moon is on 19th floor, you got this wonderfull view over the city of Amsterdam during your stay. And the funny thing is: the restaurant is turning 360 degrees around the towers axes in a bit more than an hour. This is a wonderfull experience offcourse!
Arrival
I made a reservation for 7.00 PM, for 2 persons. We arrived I suppose like ten minutes later because of some heavy trafic. Parking at the A'dam Tower is pretty easy. There's a big parkinggarage under the complex.
The text above the parking-entry immediatly made us feel like home..
We had to search for the right entry for Moon a bit. When you're planning to visit, just walk to the entrance for the look-out. The Moon reception is in the same area. After a nice welcome, the lady behind the desk brought us to the elevator. Quite handy when you want to go to the 19th floor!;)
The elevator made us think of our trip to NYC and the Top of the Rock at the Rockefeller building.
Whitin a few seconds you're at the right floor, where another desk awaits. The very friendly guy overhere brought us to our table for two. Nice to know that every table is windowseated. So you don't have to worry about your seating!
Menu
The menu at Moon isn't something you have to study for long. It changes every two months, and it's inspired by a musical quest-chef. This time it was Candy Dulfer, whom is know for playing the saxophone. The only thinking you have to do is what you want to drink (huge winemenu) and wether you want 5, 6 or 7 courses.
And then... we ate!
We've chosen a 6 course menu, what automatically dropped the Oyster. If you choose the 5 course menu, they drop the Oyster and the lamb if I remember well. We order a bottle of water and for me a Brand Weizen. I like beer. As table filling we got some bread and some breadsticks. With that they served an Oystershell with a ball on it. The ball was filled with a cocktail and melted in your mouth. Never seen it before, and very surprising!
After that the first real course came in. It was the Corvina. Tasted really refreshing, a bit sour, but not too much.
After the Corvina, the Cod came in. I'm not like a food or haute cuisine expert or something; but I can say I know about fish. Since my dad was a fisherman and had several jobs in the fishery sector I can say I grew up eating fish 5/6 times a week. This Cod was amazing!
After this great course it was time for the Sweatbreads. Normally I'm not a big fun of any mushrooms and stuff. But combined with some good sauce and not too thick pieces it was quite nice actually.
Now it was time to order some Champagne, offcourse. Since I still had to drive and my lady just can't drink a whole bottle herself, we just orderd two glasses. Wich made the choice easy, because there were just twoo choices. We went voor the Taitinger Brut. Quite nice Champagne, I must say. The winemenu is huge, differing from bottles of 150 to around 900 euro's.
Meanwhile the Summer truffle got served. This was actually some sort of Risotto with some truffle on top. I must confess I never ate real truffles before; but I can recoomend you to do so1 Tasted well again, but I think it was just too much compared to the other dished we got. Quite a big bowl.
The last course, not counting the dessert, was the Dorset lamb. Super soft peace of meat with just the right amount of vet on it. But, watch out: there's some bone in it. But that's lamb offcourse.
Time for desserts! Looked great, and tasted great aswell. The Champagne icecream and the moon of passionfruit we're amazing. The vanilla part, wich we litterly called a sponge, was a bit tasteless.
All in all quite a good dinner, and for us the right portions. I can imagine it'll be a bit different if you're a big eater. Since the part your sitting on is turning 360 degrees, you get by the kitchen several times too. It's an open kitchen, so offcrouse it looks good.
The price
I'm a Dutch guy, and as you might know: Dutch people like to know how much money everything costs. We took the 6 course menu, some beer, water and 2 glasses of Champage. This was, including a tip, € 190,-. So if you plus that with the money for the parking it'll be somewhere around € 200,-. For that money you get an amazing view over Amsterdam (and surroundings), great food and a experience you'll never forget.
