If you aren’t eating this vegetable now, you will be soon- Bok choy the superfood.
Bok choy is incredible for your health. I’ve added how to clean traditional bok choy along with how I cook it.
Also known as pak choi and chinese cabbage, Bok choy has plenty of vitamin K, A, B6, B5/pantothenic acid and C, which all can do wonders in your body. (K making sure your body makes healthy blood clots, and C making sure your cuts heal and your common cold pass quickly.)
Like a good friend, Bok choy fights for you. Bok choy reduces inflammation, which is what causes pain and swelling in unhealthy or irritated areas of the body. Bok choy also fights cancer and reduces the risk of heart disease, so this is definitely a veggie you want to have close to you.
Bok choy also has protein in it, which proves NOT ONLY CHICKEN HAS PROTEIN IN IT! It also has a very small amount of fiber which helps you feel full.
Furthermore, Bok choy has tons of healthy minerals in it, including potassium, folate, manganese, zinc, omega 3, copper, quercetin, and magnesium.
Bok choy is also good for the bones since it has calcium and iron in it as well.
Bok choy has no cholesterol, and is good for the eyes.
And if all that wasn’t good enough, Bok choy is also a vegetable made of mostly water, so it’s good for your daily fluid intake.
HOW I CLEAN MY BOK CHOY
There are different types of Bok choy, including Traditional bok choy, Shanghai bok choy, and baby bok choy. I’m going to go over how I clean traditional bok choy, since that seems to be the only type they sell at my local store.

-shanghai bok choy
I cut off the stem and put the huge leaves in a large salad bowl, and I let them soak in there for about 5 minutes. (It is very important that you do this because once I found three tiny bugs floating around in the water along with other dirt in the water with the leaves that I was glad I didn’t end up cooking with the bok choy.) Then I take them out and rinse them by hand because sometimes, there is still dirt and small dead bugs that want to cling to the vegetable. It is so worth the cleaning though.
Then I cut up the vegetable into medium shreds then saute it with this good recipe I found on youtube that involves garlic, a boullioun powder, (though it also works with a bouillon cube) and salt. But you can also cook this veggie in soups, and even grill baby bok choy!
I am so glad that one day at the store I decided to buy and cook Bok choy after seeing a recipe for this vegetable on the internet. I hope more people use this vegetable in their dinners and lunches since it is so good and good for you!
Have you ever had bok choy? Love it? Are you going to try it? Write it in the comments! I enjoy reading them!
