The 5 second rule.....OR IS IT???
Today I was eating a sirnica (bosnian salty cheese filled roll or something like that) and it fell on the floor....I picked it up as soon as it hit te floor but it begged the question. Does the five second rule apply to all the food and is there a 5 second rule at all? So I gave it some thought and did some research.

"WHAT HAPPENS NEXT MIGHT SHOCK YOU!"
But seriously it did come as a suprise to me when I found out that the 5 second rule doesn't apply to all the food.
At the University of Aston in Birmingham, UK researchers found that the 5 second rule is safe and can even be extended to 30 minutes.
But 30 minutes is good only in certain instances as I imagine that you shouldn't eat from a floor that is a high traffic area and/or dirty. As Anthony Hilton( the Professor of Applied Microbiology Head of Biological & Biomedical Science) said in a statment :
"Obviously, food covered in visible dirt shouldn't be eaten, but as long as it's not obviously contaminated, the science shows that food is unlikely to have picked up any harmful bacteria form a few seconds spent on an indoor floor."
but he also stated : "Eating food that has spent few moments on the floor can never be entirely risk-free."

So different food was tested to see what food attract the most germs.
And it shows that dry foods such as cereal, crackers and even chocolate can withstand up to 30 minutes without attracting harmful bacteria. But foods such as pasta, fries, buttered toast or ham well they should be eaten in 5 seconds or less because moist food transfer more bacteria.
But in 2016 in a study at Rutgers University it said that eating food from the floor wasn't safe but it is assumed that they were reffering to moist food because the study included that types of foods and floor matter and affect the results.
So I leave a question to you. What do you think about this and how does it make you feel? And how long does your rule last?
