[Heidelberg] Regional pork dish from south west Germany (Saumagen)

in #food7 years ago (edited)

I went to a typical German restaurant (Gaststätte) yesterday and ordered a traditional german pork dish. It is called Saumagen (pork stomach) and is made out of pork meat, potatoes and other ingredients stuffed inside the stomach of a pig which is then cooked in the oven. After cooking they cut it into slices and stir fried in a pan until it is nice and crispy! On the side it came with mashed potatoes and Sauerkraut of course. Parsley garnish for the gourmets!

Unfortunately i didn't photograph the beer that i drank but they serve all kinds of german beer. They specialize in the brewery Löwenbräu from Munich. I ordered a Löwenbräu Märzen and Dunkel. Both were very delicious so i drank them before i could take a photo! xD

You can find more information about the restaurant here. It is located in the middle of the main road of the old part of town.
