Chinese Mapo Tofu - Intensely Spicy, Incredibly Delicious
Hey Steemit and DTube. This is my first video upload and I'm SUPER excited to share my favorite childhood recipe with you!
Mapo Tofu is a classic Chinese dish from the Sichuan province of China. That area is known for their love of spicy Chinese cuisine, red hot chilis, and the Sichuan peppercorn; a spice that has a unique floral and citrus taste, while having a numbing effect on the mouth.
As legend goes, there was an old woman in a small Chinese village known as "Ma Po", or 'pockmarked Granny'. Her tofu dish was her specialty and gained fame in the province and around China. Her legacy still lives on, as Mapo Tofu is a dish that is enjoyed all over the world.
These days, you can find the dish at nearly all Chinese restaurants, though it has been watered down from it's original preparation. The recipe I show you in this video uses the ingredients that good Sichuan food is known for. I promise you, you will NOT be disappointed when you make this Mapo Tofu!
