Storing and freezing coffee
In the fight against food waste, I was looking for ways to store coffee.
Oxygen, moisture, light and temperature fluctuations turn out to be key words, but if you want to store coffee for a long time, the freezer offers.

Coffee over?
For a coffee addict - everyone? - it will be incomprehensible, but in this house the coffee only rises very slowly. To slow. And sometimes not even on.
We only have it at home for our visit and to process in the tiramisu or ganache, because we do not drink it ourselves. We do not even have a coffee maker, so we make it - very minimalist - with a filter holder.
We occasionally serve our guests coffee that is just about the best-before date. Fortunately, coffee does not really spoil, but by the time it becomes embarrassing, a part of it disappears into the trash. Food waste. Sin!
Even if you drink just as much coffee that you get the most delicious beans in your home, you can only keep it in your kitchen cupboard. For coffee of the best quality, it is recommended to buy the beans in small quantities, but what if you have something more in house than you can manage in a short time?

First things first. To keep coffee good, it is important that there is as little oxygen, moisture, light and heat as possible with the coffee. Therefore, store coffee in a cool, dark and dry place. Due to condensation, the refrigerator is usually not recommended.

When you open a pack of filter coffee, oxygen and moisture are immediately added to the coffee and you can only use the coffee for a limited time. In order to stretch the time, it is important to close the package well airtight, after you have pushed as much air as possible out of the package.
Coffee beans stay good longer after opening the package. So it's better to grind beans every time just enough for your coffee, then overpay and store it again.
According to a number of coffee lovers on the internet, filter coffee stays optimal for only a few days after opening the package and coffee beans for at most a week.
