When The Craving Hits - Choc Chip Cookies By @sweetpea

in #food5 years ago

Yesterday I woke up craving chocolate chip cookies. The craving was so real that guess what I did? I whipped up a batch! My very first batch of choc chip cookies EVER! Luckily for me (and the rest of my family), they came out just perfect. They were so delicious that they lasted a few hours, at best.

Before I even got of bed, I jumped onto Google and searched for a recipe that seemed easy enough. I was a little short on some of the ingredients so I had to improvise. For instance, I used a slab of chocolate (which my son happily smashed into tiny "chips" for me) instead of store-bought chocolate chips). I also used margarine instead of butter (the scandal) and brown sugar instead of white sugar.

The result was a delectable cookie that had a soft gooey inside and a crispy outside. Mmhmm!

The cookies were so good, they even got a thumbs-up from my picky little eater!

To share the love, I am going to share the recipe with you - but my own edited version.

THE INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups of sifted cake flour
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • Half a cup of melted margarine
  • 2 large eggs
  • A teaspoon of vanilla essence
  • A teaspoon of baking soda
  • A pinch of salt
  • A slab of chocolate broken into pieces (or prepacked choc chips)

THE STEPS

  1. Preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celcius
  2. Line a flat pan with baking paper
  3. Mix your melted margarine and sugar together until creamy
  4. Add vanilla essence and eggs and mix well
  5. Add chocolate pieces
  6. Use a spatula to fold in the flour, salt, and baking soda
  7. Chill your dough in the fridge for one hour
  8. Scoop tablespoon-sized blobs onto your baking paper
  9. Place in oven and allow to bake for 10-12 minutes
  10. Place cookies onto a cooling rack

I got 20 cookies out of this batch, which I think is quite good considering the ingredients were relatively inexpensive. And despite the fact that I didn't use real butter, they still gave a "melt in your mouth" experience.

Once the cookies had cooled off, my kiddo and I made some tea and enjoyed a movie while we munched our way through our chocolatey bounty. I wonder what tomorrow's craving will be?

Much love - @sweetpea
