Old sage orange is what I have heard some call it , the old timers also called it hedge apples .They use to use use fence posts out of the wood or markers back then ...they were not the kind of wood that was straight, it would grow bent ....but because of that reason, that marker or fence post made out of the hedge apple wood , would last decades an decades. I live in Kentucky, and though I've not seen them in the eastern part of the state but I've seen them in central Kentucky. Around the Fayett county Lexington area
