TRANSFER NEWS - West Ham sign Swansea goalkeeper Fabianski for £7m

West Ham have completed the signing of Swansea City goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

The former Arsenal stopper - who is currently at the World Cup with Poland - joins the Irons for a reported fee of £7 million (€8m/$9m).

He will replace Joe Hart at the London Stadium, with West Ham opting against making the England international's season-long loan deal a permanent one.

Fabianski arrived at Arsenal in 2007, spending seven seasons with the Gunners before moving to Swansea, where he missed just three Premier League games over the course of four campaigns.

He is now looking forward to a different challenge with West Ham, telling the club's official website that he was eager to get started with his new club.

“West Ham is a massive club so I’m really happy to be joining at such an exciting time here," Fabianski said.

"I will do my best on and off the pitch to help the team to achieve the best results possible and can’t wait to start this new chapter of my career."

Fabianski has played 45 times for Poland, but is their backup goalkeeper in Russia where Juventus's Wojciech Szczesny was chosen to start in their opening game, a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Senegal.

West Ham United director of football Mario Husillos is looking forward to the experience Fabianski will bring to the club, with the 33-year-old set to be first choice ahead of Adrian.

“Lukasz is an experienced and established Premier League goalkeeper, with great quality that he has shown at both domestic and international level," Husillos said.

“He fits perfectly the mould of the modern goalkeeper, with excellent agility, presence and distribution, and will bring strong competition to the position.

“Of course, at this moment, Lukasz is fully focused on the World Cup finals with Poland. We wish him all the very best out in Russia and look forward to welcoming him upon his return to England later this summer.”
