This is how it currently stands in group D

World Cup Moments

Nigeria's senior national team known as the Super Eagles of Nigeria started their world cup campaign against Croatia with a very poor performance on Saturday the 16th of June 2018. They lost the match without zeal or any form of hope that they were going to be a bone of contention at the FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The team was criticised by alot of soccer fans around the world, including the Nigerian supporters and citizens of the great country Nigeria. Everyone looked forward to the next game which was played today, the 22nd of June, hoping for a much more improved side.

The game started with Iceland showing the stuff they were made of. Iceland looked like the better team to win the match. The group which has seen lots of surprises like Iceland holding Argentina to a 1-1 draw in their first match and a 3-0 thrashing of Argentina by Croatia a day before this match, is still undecided of the 2 teams to advance to the round of 16.

Croatia has already qualified for the round of 16 and are currently on top of the group with 6 points and a five goal advantage, which is likely to keep them at the top of the group regardless of the outcome between the other teams at the last group phase matches.

Nigeria bounced back with a scintillating performance in the second half of the match against Iceland. Ahmed Musa was the star player for the Supper Eagles after scoring twice to ensure that Nigeria stay at the second position in group D.

The Iceland team lost a penalty in the 83rd minute of the game. The second half of the match was exciting as we saw a different kind of Nigerian team in the Russia world cup. They looked very dangerous on the break and created alot of chances.

The Super Eagles are meant to face Argentina in their final group game of Tuesday the 26th of June in what will be a cracker. The Argentine team would have to win the match against Nigeria to ensure thT they progress to the next phase. Meanwhile Nigeria will have to get at least a draw to ensure that they qualify for the next round, hoping that Iceland doesn't defeat Croatia with more than a 2 goals margin.

Group D will round off excitingly because it promises to be a cracker. The battle of who will progress to the round of 16 will be decided. The team who takes their chances and defend appropriately will definitely make it to the round of 16. I hope that the team is Nigeria.

The Nigerian team is fielding the youngest team in the FIFA World Cup and most of the current players haven't played in the FIFA World Cup in the past. We hope to see them past the round of 16 as they play together and train together. I wish them the very best and the sky is their starting point.

I love the team and I love Nigeria. God bless Nigeria. 🙌👍

Cheers!!
